I think he was being facetious.
But hey, we can always solve this little problem with more welfare/EI, right?

Im not sure why we should care why america should envy our economy.
Our economy is good and we were able to sustain it during 2001 and 2002. There's more than meets the eye though.

Ok, people need to actually read the article before posting - I know it's hard, but try. It's about how more and more Canadians are worried about losing their jobs and not being able to find another one.
I'm curious as to what one means by "sustaining" the economy - do you mean that during 2001-2002 our nation didn't go bankrupt? I suppose that's good... do you mean the farcical "surplus" we had which could easily be accounted for by less than 2% of the utter waste that goes on in all levels of government and essentially means we were overtaxed?
This article doesn't really surprise me - in fact, I'd be wary of any articles reporting on Canada's economy as healthy - just because the U.S. economy is suffering more does not mean Canada's isn't suffering at all.

IMHO, the Canadian economy is very dependent on the US. About 87 % of Canadian exports are to the US.
Many of the "new low payed" jobs that are created in Canada are basically calling center jobs that are outsourced by US companies.
The Canadian automotive industry especially in Windsor is based mainly on US car makers like GM and Ford.
All Canadians should pray that the economy in US shows healthy signs.
