a dilemma with my technics sl-1200 mk2 table

so after finally deciding to upgrade from my horrible (now I really know how horrible!) gemini xl-100's (spinmaster package BAH!) I went on ebay and got a used technics sl-1200 mk2 turntable...for $340 plus shipping/handling/insurance...not a bad deal...well, there's a bit of a short in the phono line...is this something my non-electronics ass can fix easily or should I throw some more cash down and get it done professionally??...the short is in the line not internally...which is good, I hope...I have a crapload of other cables and if it's as simple as unplugging one and plugging another (with a ground of course) in then maybe I'll go for it but if it's not then I'll throw some money at it...so any suggestions??? I'm still working on trying to get another direct drive table (maybe not another used technics tho) so does anyone have any other suggestions...after playing around for a couple hours I can already notice the difference...beat matching was so much more of a pain, now it's weird with one good table and one cheap paperweight but better nontheless...thanks...out

haha yah i can imagine trying to mix on 2 diff tables.

wheres the short? any idea? it could be where the arm connects, inside the casing, where the wire goes outside? theres allot of places to look.. personally I would say talk to the ebay guy, tell him whatsup and that you wanna take it to a repair shop, and will he please pay the bill or refund the table.. then send him a copy of the repair bill & have the guy write the problem on the reciept... that way he can't argue..

being that u bought it, i'd say get it repeaired professionally so the seller can't turn around and say it was fine u broke it playing around with the wires..

just make sure everything is in place nice and tight... if that doesnt fix it id say go pro

thanks that's a very good idea and I will go do what you suggested...I've already contacted them (they're a business so I gotta wait till the beginning of next week for an answer) so hopefully they will pay for the repair bill...since the line is exposed at the output (although it's wrapped with black electric tape) I'd venture to guess that it's there...I can wiggle it around at the top and it'll go in and out...when it's stationary and I've got the cord where it needs to be to output at full volume (and without the ground screaming) it's standable but I'm afraid of bumping into my table slightly and making it go haywire...thanks for the help, I'll play around with it a bit more before I take it into a shop...out
