Mike Koglin Interview & News on his Latest Releases

MIKE KOGLIN Interview & News on his Latest Releases

Mike Koglin is a busy bloke - he runs his own record label NOYS, hangs out with Above and Beyond and has even been nominated for a Grammy! Amazingly he still even finds time to produce Trance chart and main room stormers! He took a bit of time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions...

1) As head honcho of Noys you must get sent in loads of promos requesting to
be on your label - how do you separate the future hits from the bad bits?

a) I appreciate any demo or promo that is sent to me and I always take time to listen to all of them. But it seems like there are only very few that have that certain something that makes me sit up and listen.

2) What tips do you have for budding producers that want to hit the top?

a) These days it's easy to get a decent sounding track on a very low budget, as you can do mot things in your bedroom - but you have to put the hours in if you want to reap the rewards!

3) If you weren't making dance floor fillers during the week what would you be doing?

a) When I was younger I wanted to be a graphic designer and worked in a
graphic design agency for almost a year - but I didn't like the arty people so decided to pursue a career in music instead.

4) With the release of your 2005 remix of 'The Silence' looming you must be excited - what made you decide to remix an already astounding tune?

a) Because i got fed up of everyone asking me to play the original at DJ gigs - laughs out loud - and because the old version now seems out dated so I wanted to beef it up!

5) Some have said that 'The Silence' started the Trance craze that swept t he nation in '98 - how does this make you feel?

a) It was definitely one of the first big Trance hits that managed to cross over into the mainstream - it was released around the same time as Goureyella and all these tunes helped to build the Trance revolution!

6) Having collaborated with many Trance legends over the past year and a half on your label Noys - JFK, Simon Paterson, Dogzilla - what can Noys addicts expect collaboration wise in the future?

a) They can expect a future release with Simon Paterson, and a collaboration with Pulsar! - Keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground for future collaborations - or check www.noysmusic.com for more info!

7) You recently played main room at a 5,000 capacity event in Belgium - has this been your most memorable gig to date? - If not what has been?

a) Yes - that was definitely one of the best dj experiences I have had to date - The club was in a massive indoor arena - and there was a very set up for the dj booth - including a 30 foot waterfall behind the dj through which they projected laser images! It was mental! Other memorable gigs were in Japan - where the crowd is always up for it!

8) Best known for producing top class Trance stormers - are you influenced solely by dance music?

a) My influences come from all types of music - from Electro to House to Techno I like all shades of music!

9) What made you decide to produce music and DJ full time?

a) i got into the music industry after having taken an engineering course and working as an engineer in various studios in London. Producing and remixing just seemed like the next natural step from there!

10) What were you doing before you decided to fulfil your dream and produce music full time?

a) I was playing keyboard in a couple of college bands, before I went to the school of audio engineering in Frankfurt.

11) Which producers do you tip for the top in 2005?

a) My all time favourite producer at the moment is Sam Sharp! - because the direction he is going in is where I see Trance going in the future - more attitude and very driving - wicked!

12) What record never leaves you dj box?

a) Hard beats by Silvester

13) Top three tunes of the moment?

Sandler - The Theme Song
Code 1 - House Music
Mike Koglin vs. JFK - Relentless

14) Having started your own record label Noys over a year and a half ago - what made you decide to jump into the management side of record labels instead of being on the other side?

a) Because the way things are going in the music industry it seems to be the sensible thing to do - to take things into your own hands rather than waiting for other labels to sign your tune!

15) Why did you call your record label Noys?

a) Originally it was a play on Sony - an anagram - and I originally used the Sony font in the beginning but I recently changed the logo design - because loads of people were saying that I could get sued!! lol

16) How would you describe your DJing style in 3 words?

a) Uplifting banging trance!!!

MIKE KOGLIN - 'THE SILENCE 2005' - OUT NOW

2005 Rework / Will Holland Remix / Matt Darey 'Tekara' Remix

----------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

The Silence, Mike Koglin's 1998 UK top 20 dance anthem was one
of the defining tracks when Trance burst into the minds of clubbers
around the world.

Now The Silence is back with new up-to-date mixes.
Will Holland, one of the most up-and-coming UK producers who
has recently remixed tracks for TuneInn, UKBonzai and Platipus
Records for artists such as Neo&Farina and Filo&Peri delivers a
euphoric trance remix of 'The Silence', while Mike Koglin has
produced a full-on rework of his club classic which can only be
described as peak time material. Matt Darey's 'Tekara' remix has
become somewhat of a collectors item since it was first released
in 1998. We've included it again on The Silence 2005 - so here's
another chance to get your hands on the original version of this
much bootlegged dance anthem.

Armin Van Buuren - Record Of The Week
Above & Beyond - Record Of The Week
Eddie Halliwell - 'great remix'
Andy Bagguley (Passion) - 'Full support guaranteed'
Gavyn Mitchel (Turnmills) - 'Will cane this for some time'
Ian Pickering - 'Massive crowd reaction - 10/10'
Andi Durrant - support on Galaxy FM
John Askew - support on Kiss100 FM
Graham Gold - support on Kiss100 FM
Scott Mac - 'toughens it up nicely'
Adam White (Euphoria) - 'Really love this record. It's wicked - 10/10'
Mac West (Passion) - 'Has my full support'
Lange - 'Superb!'

MIKE KOGLIN VS JFK - 'RELENTLESS' - OUT NOW Original 12'' Mix / Andy Bagguley Remix NOYS008

Continuing his series of collaborations Mike Koglin has teamed up with JFK, and together they've produced a monster of a tune! Tried and tested by Koglin and Kinch around the globe over the summer, this dance anthem is set to be the biggest release on NOYS yet - with support from all the top jocks, Radio1 airplay and rave reviews in all the main dance magazines.
'Relentless' is out now with a superb remix by Passion resident Andy Bagguley.
Simon Eve (DJ Mag) - " Relentless has got everything that is good in a decent dance track nowadays"
Anne Savage - (Tidy Girl) - "It's superb"
Jonathan Grant - (Above & Beyond) - "Love this"
Andrew Ferguson - (Room at the Top) - "The best reaction in my set at the weekend was for this track!"
Tony McGuiness - (Anjunabeats) - "Banging top of the night tune"
