I dunno why but i have'nt been able to do any dnb ever since i started working in reason , now if i turn on impulse tracker it's totally diffrent i know exactly how to reach the sounds i want to hear ,really fucked up. But i'm trying to do a drum 'n bass remix of Ferry Corsten - Punk ,got wicked bassline down to follow the riff from Punk but i'm stumped at the beat, can't decide what kinda beats i should have, the old bad company style ,heavy on the basskick and snare or should i take the "modern" approuch with something that sounds like concord dawn and others alike

yer i dabble in darkside drum and bass.

http://fileserv6.soundclick.com/fas...ybassybreak.mp3

that song is quite old now and could really do with an update. all the sounds fade in and out cuz its made entirely with the zeta+ demo.

percussion takes alot of production. alot. you have to EQ kicks waaay differently to trance. kicks in dnb are much more mid range with a bit of treble. to make room for the massive bassline.

if you are interested in writing dnb, zeta is an awesome instrument to that end. you can also get free overdrive/distortion plugins like SC_Overdrive and Greasetube to literally turn samples inside out. a little bit of greastube on an 808 kick with the attack softened, plus a huge amount of compression makes for a great stabbing sub bassline ala dillinja.

ok i listen that song with baaad speakers and it was ok.

becouse of speakers i'm not sure of couple details

first.. was there some stereospreading?? rule nro 1. always bass drum, sanre and the main bassline to centre in jungle/d'n b..

you have to do something to that beat man. theres something behind that loop but not enough. dont use loops as a main drums.. use it to full your own drums.

i use amen loop only for percussions.. peace

listen to it carefully. the main break is one i built myself. theres an amen on the top. you can hear the break i made when it sort of breaks down but owing to the age of the track and my production. owing to poor production, it doesnt go very loud without cutting off. far far far too much top end presence on the snare. the bass is all centred apart from the phased 2 step bassline. there is stereo spreading on the entire amen with the a bit of the bass end cut away on an EQ. although if this causes problems i can redo it. ive been planning to bring this one bang up to date either way. this track is fairly old and theres a remix of it somewhere on my computer with that amen cut to peices and reconstituted ontop of the same break i made with some bells and whistles. i have to find it though. my projects folder is pretty bloated.

dude, that track is very familiar.. did you borrow it from an existing track? I'm thinking Hive and Keaton, but I can't remember..

no part of the song is borrowed. except the amen break. and the amen has been used by pretty much every dnb producer under the sun. this tune is your standard amen/reece track though. its the supersaw/off bass of drum and bass. total cliche. but everyone has to do one. its mandatory.

post a sample of the track that mine is similar to, if you have it. im curious now.
