Finding BPM?

i'm not talking about while mixing or even necessarily EDM at all
say you have any old song, hip hop, rock, house, w/e
how would you go about finding the bpm?
i'm working with some mashups and to get them synced it seems like i'm doing too much work to have it come out not quite perfect
thanks in advance

In hip-hop the snare hits on the 2 and the 4. In House the kicks hits on the 1,2,3,4. In Rock alot of times the snare hits on the 2 and the 4 although the drums aren't electronic so it won't be exact. Or you could listen to the high hats and count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. Thats pretty much it.

if your using cubase sx then it has the tap tempo built in....just goto project in the menu and you will see it. all you do is play teh tune and keep hitting teh space bar untill you are sure your right on. not perfect but almost...oh and i remeber a long time ago I used to use this plugin called beat calculator..ot would calculate the bpm by just playing the song..and it was pretty tight too.

Hers one of em

i usually use Acid Pro to beatmap tunes since it has the option of automatically loading up the beatmapper for "large" files. bit more of a convenience. for acapellas though, i'll usually load it right into SX (my sequencer of choice). i can usually get the general idea of what bpm it's at, so i'll just keep changing the track tempo until it gets close to exact and then edit it to perfection.

try using any sort of beatmapping tool or just a simple metrognome.
