Thoughts on Novation Nova

I see there are several people here who own the Nova desktop synth.. I've found a nice deal on it, and I'm pretty interested in it. I've heard some sound examples of it, including the vengeance soundset demo. I couldn't help but feeling the sound was somehow thin, and lifeless.. It might be my ears, and even my headphones. I must say that the sounds I heard can't be rivalled by the virus b, or even some softsynths. What are your thoughs on it. Is it a good buy, or should I save up for a virus b?
Appreciate any thoughts guys!

novation nova is like the desktop version of the supernova II right? i heard the effects on it are better than the virus effects. the virus is quite an aggressive synth whereas the nova is much gentler. it depends what kind of sound you are after. im really into my aggressive leads and dying machine sounds so the virus is a beaut for that. nova is more for those soft trance arps and lush pads. although the virus can do lush pads too, theres a tendancy (especially if you dont know what you're doing) for you to twiddle on the virus and turn every patch into sub bass sludge.

Yeah, it's more or less what I expected.. The Nova is indeed the desktop version of Supernova. The sounds are nice! I'm sure they will sit pretty nicely in the mix without mayor eq'ing to them, as they weren't especially fat - and dominant in the lower freq register. I guess you're right. It's totally dependant on what kind of sounds I'm after. I'd just love to have a nice hardware synth to play with, without having to start up my comp! I still have nine days before the auction is finished, so I guess I've made up my mind until then!

if you like filth then a virus b will really satisfy your latent desire to make dirty dirty music. OOF. i got mine from ebay in as new condition for £390. before i got that i was looking at the supernova and nord leads 1s and nord lead 2s because those seemed to be going on ebay for prices within my budget. but i didnt get the supernova cuz deep down...i just love dirt.

I guess you're right.. The nova would be excellent for Ian van Dahl'ish soft sounding tracks, while the virus is more for the filthy heart-stabbing, woofer grinding, earth-shaking, trouser-wetting(lol) leads.

If I could afford the KC, there would be no doubt in my mind.

do you need the KC specifically? you can get virus b desktops on ebay quite cheaply now. about the same price as a used supernova II

Yeah, I've seen some good bargains on those! I recon I will go for one of those, rather than spending the extra hundreds of dollars on the kc. I guess there's not really much difference in sound anyway? I hope to be able to buy one right after the hollidays!

and remember - an expensive synth wont make your productions golden by itself - although this one will flatter you a bit more than the synths you are using currently

when i get bored. i doodle in ms paint.

ive only had my virus for a week and i came up with this MONSTER multi mode hoover. i was really happy with it. but i didnt save it properly because i used editted patches from banks E and F which cannot be written to. so i lost it and had to program it again. and it never sounded as good.

noooooooooooooo!!!1

everyone must have had their 'scream' moments when they suddenly realised 'oh shit! i fucked up!'

Awwwww.. Crap, that suck man! I spent several hours making my own patches for pro53. I closed fl, and when I started it up again later on I realized that all the patches were blank for some reason! I have no idea why this happened! It hasn't occured after that though.

btw: I printed out your doodle and put it on the wall next to my comp! I really liked it!
