Its also always a good idea to try and recreate the patterns that you hear and like, it gives you a good feel for rhythm imo. But don't limit yourself to what you hear and like. Try coming up with your own ideas, and experiment, thats always fun.

I'll show u an example of one of my favorite patterns
K = Kick
H = Open Hi-Hat
h = Closed Hi-Hat
T = Tamborine hits (Can be found in real percussion kits in the default pack)
C = Clap
K---K---K---K---
-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h
--H---H---H---H-
T---T---T---T---
----C-------C---
Add a little delay and some reverb to the Hi-Hats and Tamborine, Compress and EQ the Kick and maybe a little reverb and EQ to the Clap.
