Azzam Azzam: 'I am proud of Israel for not forgetting me'

http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satell...d=1102220766914

after serving 8 years out of a 15 year sentence for allegedly spying on egypt, Azzam Azzam, an israeli born druze was freed in a prisioner swap between the two nations. Israel released 6 Egiptians and said it would even consider excellerating the sentence of some palestinian prisioners if further progress within palestinian society is made.

Was this done out of nessesity for either country or was it simply a sign of the "friendship" that has flurushed between the Israelis and Egyptians over the years?

Could we expect to see Israel and egypt more open about their relations with one another due to the new US presence in the mid east? would be nice to see egypt openly normalized with israel.

Perhaps setting an example will now be that much easier for them, and a lot more will be accomplished between Israel and Egypt an example for the Arab world to follow... lets just hope so!

Egypt can't negotiate. Hezbollah is better in that kind of things. One spy for a few students? I don't like Sadat's political strategy

I suppose the Isrealis and the Egyptians could have a massive piss up on all the money America is giving them both!

I dont think this will be an example to the Arab world if Egypt and Israel are gonna be "friends" in fact it would be political suicide in Egypt. The Arabs dont like the government there (or Saudi Arabia etc who they all think are corrupt) so cosying up to the evil Zionist Crusader is hardly likely to be an "inspiration" to the Arab world is it? (And by Arab world I mean the people not countries as you can get a country to do anything you like if ypou pay em enuf)

Heh, it's not really as bad as you portray it. There are muslim countries who are on relatively good terms with Israel. Aside from Turkey which is infact Israel's strategical ally, Jordan also has good ties with Israel. If Egypt improves its ties with Israel too, it's basically gonna mean that most of Israel's immediate neighbours will be fairly acceptant of its existance. Combined with the final death of Arafat and the likely election of Abas as the new Palestinian leader, it could likely mean a final end of the middle eastern struggle.
