Paul Lancaster
Born and raised in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, 27yr old DJ and producer Paul Lancaster was first introduced to the sounds of acid house and techno by local pirate radio station Wear FM in the early 90s.
Inspired by the DJ mix tapes of Carl Cox that he heard at school, Paul quickly embraced the local underground rave scene and began honing his own mixing skills with the techno and breakbeat he discovered at Bass Generator Records and the deep house grooves of Trax (now Flying Records) in Newcastle.
Following a move to Leeds, Paul drew further influence from the diverse mixture of funky vocal house and US garage at club nights such as Up Yer Ronson, Back 2 Basics and Hard Times along with the techno and breakbeat of the Orbit and Warehouse. After a short spell DJing for fashion shows and promoting his own club nights in Leeds, Paul returned to Newcastle with a new found confidence as a DJ and a burning desire to break through as a producer.
Over the next few years Paul took his first tentative steps towards production, remixing a number of house classics for his own DJ use and his first full production in the form of debut single 'Bad Girl' that was quickly signed to local house label Climax Recordings in Newcastle.
Paul then began working as A&R scout, DJ and producer for Climax Recordings in Newcastle with a number of his productions and remixes signed to the label including 'The Gringo Trail' by Julio G. Soon after, 'Don't Stop Burning' was signed by Cass to his Sabotage Systems label and included on his compilation album '8' and more recently 'Night Vision' was released in September 2003 as the first single on the awesome new label CP Recordings.
In 2004, Paul has already remixed 'We Feel' by Blue Haze for the Confi-Dance label and 'Leathersex' by the Thrill Kill Kult for Red Ant in the US which will also be featured on a new TKK remix album later this year. Many more productions and remixes are set to follow throughout the year.
2003 was an incredible year for Paul with headline gigs in London, Rome, Malta, South Korea and Sacramento and the start of his own club night Fragile in Newcastle. With an eclectic mix of musical styles, Paul's productions and remixes have found strong support with some of the world's best DJs whilst his own reputation as an accomplished DJ mixing the very best in house, progressive, tech-house and breaks continues to grow far and wide.
