EDIT: I was really looking forward to the comparison of FS2 and SSL but I wish these reviews were more in depth; though the final conclusion does not surprise me much. Seems like they both perform but FS2 (with more features) has a few bugs that SSL does not.

pretty intresting review. Like most of the reviewers, i still prefer ssl over fs2 from my previous experiences w/ stanton and the tech support/updates rane puts out is the best.

I've been thinking, really all these "scratch amps" are are audio cards to convert the time code into a digital signal, why couldn't a normal (good quality) audio card do the exact same thing?

Someone should write some software so we don't need these expensive products, just a time code record, decent sound card, and software.

Its not that simple because you would need a much much faster computer to use this product and if your computer slowed down the slightest bit the music would probly start skipping and going glichy.

The scratch amp does but your main point is absolutly correct. There is some software that does that and uses a normal quality soundcard (it must have ASIO drivers) and you are either going to need 2 ins and outs or else two cards.

On a slightly related note, seeing as the FS2 ScratchAmp has all those extra features (MIDI and what not) it would be really slick if you could just use it as a normal external soundcard for producing or something. Someone will probobly hack it but it would be nice to have that as an official feature.

Just keep in mind, it's a risk because if for some reason it doesn't work together it won't have some kind of warranty like a complete product will. If for some reason it doesn't work for you, you won't really have any official support on all that money you just spent($100+ for the sound card, some more money on the special vinyls, some more money on the software). There was a thread on this a few weeks back.

I was thinking it would be cool if the MIDI out sent out the time code so you could hook it up directly to a sequencer and mix tracks completely live.
