Beat Matching Question?

hey, i've mastered mixing on the computer...but now i'm trying to learn on some numark axis 8's. my question is when setting a cue point, how can you make sure the point is set exactly on the beat for a smooth transition? thanks

When i cue on my CDJ1000, I put it into vinyl mode, and search for my cue point that way. One you find it, rock the jog wheel over the beat to make sure its there, then hit 'cue'.

yeah its pretty similar on the numark, but it has a slightly different cueing system. make sure it is in scratch-cue mode, pause the track, then back-cue over the beat you want then slowly move it over the beginning of the kick until it is right at the start of the kick (you can test and move this later if needed). press play to set the cue point, then press cue to go back to the cue point and check it. repeat as necessary

Sometimes you won't get it exactly on-beat when you hit play, regardless of exactly where you cue it at. That's when pitch bend comes in.

its best to practice this like buggery. eventually you can get it pretty much spot on 100% of the time, or at least close enough to hit play with an open fader
