Review: Frankie Knuckles w/ Nevio @ Boa-Redux
While everyone at the Docks were getting a taste of classic trance, the people at Boa were served a dose of groovin house that was the backdrop to an amazing vibe, and unbelievable party.
I started the night out a little later than usual, arriving at 2:30 to an already electric crowd at full force to the tasty treats Nevio was serving. Like last time, Nev completely revamped his sound and got the party rollin in true Boa resident fashion. Unbelievable job getting this party started (for the hour and a half i saw), set the table for Frankie to do it up proper.
Frankie took to the decks, and delivered a set with what seemed no emotion what so ever. Barely any crowd interaction, and very little excitement shown on his part. But soon enough, it was apparent why. He is so focused on delivering a set that was not only flawlessly mixed, but with a range of house that went back and forth like ive never witnessed before. He would go from an anthem like "Lola's Theme", and follow it with a dirty ass track that most people would never think to mix. It was like this all night, but somehow, he made it work. Of course he had his doses of vocal and classic, but it was complimented by some of the bass heavy tracks ive heard on Boa's system. I recall at one point while dancing on the stage area completely stopping myself from dancing to listen in awe to the mix of completely mind blowing basslines that set that crowd in a frenzy (around 6am). Towards the end, while the crowd was evidently beat to a pulp he enlightens us with a classical gem, consisting of almost nothing but a piano riff. Such beautiful sounds at that time in the morning gave us a chance to rest our feet temporarily, and give our ears something most dj's not dare throw on during a set.
Nevio then took over the decks around 10am, and began to slaughter the then small (but rejuvenated) crowd with some uptempo stuff similar to what he began the night with. "I CANT WAIT.....FOR THE WEEKEND TO BEGIN......") - what is the name of that track? Its been in my head for days, and i think the reason my leg is in such pain at the moment from dancing at a retarded pace for 10:30 in the morning. Party was done at 10:45 - and stayed til the lights were on. I think thats a true sign as to how unbelievable this experience was.
