Confused Mix Craft

Im just waiting on my new setup for christmas and i was wondering if you guys can gimme a list of the different mixing techniques availible for the Pioneer 800's.

I know that its all down to creativity on how you mix but what are the basic techniques that i can build up from...

I know the simple one where you just beatmatch but whats this about the cue buisness.

excuse my questions if you think they're stupid but im fresh to this game.

thanks

cueing is setting a starting point for your cue track (the one you are about to bring in). with a cd deck you can set this point and recall it at the touch of a button, this is great for whats known as hot-cueing, where you can repeat a few beats from your cue point if you so wish.

another example of using cue points is a little more technical and a more advanced technique, but i will explain it as it explains the use of cue points very well. say you have beatmatched your track, and you have set a cue point somewhere a little into the track; you bring it in slowly (putting eq's to serious use), then when you want to cut out of the previous track you can backspin your cue track, press stop on the previous track (with the stop curve turned down a little), hit cue and play on your cue track IN TIME, and you have a nice little break trick. obviously, whether that will sound good is down to what music you intend on playing, it wouldn't work with say, prog house

once you have mastered beatmatching, concentrate on your eq work as this is the way you can get it all to sound smoother and fade nicer between tracks. this can be done many ways, and it takes practice to find out what sounds good, but basically with the eq's on your mixer, you swap certain bits from one track with other bits from another. play around and see whats what.
