Champions League Draw For Knockout Stage

The draw for the UEFA Champions League first knockout round will take place today at 12.00CET (11am UK Time) at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The draw will last approximately 20 minutes and will involve the 16 teams that have advanced from the group stage: the eight section winners, who are seeded, and the eight runners-up.

Draw conditions
The draw respects the following principles:
* Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other.
* The winners and runners-up of the same group must not be drawn against each other.
* Group winners must not be drawn against each other.
* Group runners-up must not be drawn against each other.
* All group runners-up will play their first-leg matches at home.

Match dates
There will be eight ties, with the first legs to be played on 22/23 February and the return legs on 8/9 March, with the exception of FC Internazionale Milano's second-leg tie at the San Siro. With their neighbours AC Milan also among the group winners and due to play at home in the return match, Inter's return tie will be played a week later, on 15 March, as UEFA rules do not allow for two games in the same stadium on consecutive days.

Group winners Group runners-up
AS Monaco FC (FRA) Liverpool FC (ENG)
Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER) Real Madrid CF (Spain)
Juventus FC (ITA) FC Bayern München (GER)
Olympique Lyonnais (FRA) Manchester United FC (ENG)
Arsenal FC (ENG) PSV Eindhoven (NED)
AC Milan (ITA) FC Barcelona (ESP)
FC Internazionale Milano (ITA) Werder Bremen (GER)
Chelsea FC (ENG) FC Porto (POR)

Representatives from Europe's finest clubs will gather in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday as the draws for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup take place.

Past winners
The Champions League draw will take centre stage as 16 clubs prepare to learn their fate, with proceedings starting at 12.00CET. Among those eight section winners and eight runners-up are holders FC Porto, nine-time European champions Real Madrid CF and six-time winners AC Milan. Indeed, this continent's two most decorated clubs could be paired together; one of a number of potentially fascinating ties.

Kept apart
Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other, meaning Chelsea FC cannot play Manchester United FC, while those who met in the group stage must be kept apart. One of the group winners will be paired with one of the runners-up with the pool winners playing the first leg (scheduled for 22/23 February with the returns on 8/9 March) of their tie away.

Thirty-three of the 49 European Champion Clubs' Cup finals played since the tournament's inception in 1955/56 have been won by the 16 teams remaining in this season's UEFA Champions League.

Facts and figures
Chief among them are Real Madrid CF, the first champions and nine-times winners overall; AC Milan, six times the cream of the continent; and FC Bayern München and Liverpool FC, both four-times winners. Of the 16 qualifiers, six have never lifted the European Cup, while the same number are the reigning champions of their countries. uefa.com looks at the facts and figures of those left to contest club football's premier prize.

Unfortunate draw... the big games are happening too early damnit.

Anyways, my picks from the big-games.

Madrid to beat Juve... Real seem to bring it together for the big games when it matters the most, and they out for revenge for a couple of years ago.

AC Milan to beat Man United... Milan are clear favourites for this one but something tells me they might just underestimate United enough to make this tie uncomfortable.

Barca to beat Chelsea... Just a romantic notion, but this year seems like it belongs to Barcelona. The best game of the bunch and could obviously go either way but if no one is injured Barcelona has the more potent team with Ronaldinho, Etoo, Deco, Xavi, Guily all match winners.

Of the rest: Inter, Liverpool, Lyon, PSV, and just maybe Arsenal's flair will be too much for Bayern.

I dont agree that there are any "boring" games here. I just love watching football anyways I guess.
