Hey Guys & Girls,
I've been reading these boards for a while now, but this is my first time to post, so greetings!

I've been thinking about buying some gear for quite some time now, and I'm ready to go out and do it. I've decided to start out with some CD players because I (like most) don't have much money, and I want to build a vinyl collection before I get some turntables. In addition to that, I've been practicing on my friend's (Izzy, who is also a frequent poster here) CD players. Anyway, here are my questions:

I've been looking at the Nurmark CDN-25s, the Gemini CD-20s, and the Nurmark Axis 2s. Out of those 3, which would you suggest? Also, do you prefer the Dual CD players, or 2 seperate ones? Finally, do you have any other suggestions that I haven't listed in a similar price range?

In answer to that question:
i would cross out the gemini, the make nice mixers but i heard that thier laser eyes go out pretty fast.
about the numarks, that model is new and i havent seen them before, they look nice.

now about that i think your wrong, it all comes down to what you want but i would advise you to go with Turntables.and build a Vinyl collection while usind TTs...
i made (what i see today as a mistake) by buying CDs and not TTs...

i personally like the pioneer front loaders
but if you want to go with a dual deck thing, then the denons are great

If I were you I'd spend a bit more time saving up and go for the good on Pioneer CDJ 500. I was browsing through DJ mag today and apparently their price has fallen down quite a bit. They also work in everyway like the Turntables so it might be nice. I was gonna get me a pair of these but decided to go for turntables instead. I've become really poor now though =(. So as this is gonna be a one-time investment why not get what will delight you instead of buying some crappy cd players and wish you spent your fortune on something else?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll check out the Pioneers and Denons. As for the vinyl vs. cds thing, here are my thoughts, and why I'm currently planning on purchasing cd players.

1) My vinyl collection right now is *very* thin, and I'd hate to spend a lot of money on Technics (I probably wouldn't get anything else) and only be able to mix between a few songs.

2) In order to have a decent set, I'd need to spend 200+ US$ on records, which I just can't do if I buy 2 Technics, and a mixer, etc.

3) With CD players, I can use the CD singles I already have, and burn songs as I come to aquire them on vinyl. Or, I can be blantantly illegal about it, and just download and burn songs (I know, I know...).

4) With CD players, I can use my own samples or (one day) productions during a set, which I think would be cool.

5) I intend to own at least one turntable within 6 months of getting CD players, once I have built up a respectable collection of music.

Anyway, these are a few reasons why I'm looking at CD players right now. I completely agree that Turntables are the way to go, and I'll be there eventually, but it just doesn't seem to make sense to me right now. Let me know what you think. I'd hate to feel like DJ 2Tall does in a few months. Any suggestions will be helpful.

hey kyle! glad you joined us here.
now seeing as we both know we're going to get tables i seriously advise not getting something too expensive (like the denons and pioneers) but rather something very basic that'll last you throught your carreer. if you get really good and want fancy CD players you'll always be able to sell yours. i've kept looking and everytime i get drawn to those two new numarks. you just have to decide which ones you prefer... the dual or singleload. the dual will be much cheaper but dont forget it comes in two parts, the actual cd player and the panel, so you'll probably need some sort of rack to carry it easier.

Aggijedi. I can't say more about which CD players to buy.. that's your part to decide. But I think you'll be making a right decision to go for the CD players first.. Then just burn and mix songs.. during then start up with your vinyl collection and when you feel is right get your first deck and learn to mix with that and eventually get another deck. By then you'll hopefully have mastered your mixing, have a pretty good collection of records and perhaps already got a resident somewhere?! Who knows..? But then don't forget to go for a 4-channel mixer if you want to use 2 TTs and 2 cds players.

i am hoping to get a TT first and then start blowing money on records...
seems useless to me to buy records when you dont have a way to play em...

The problem I see with getting decks first is what will you do with them if you have nothing to spin? Unless you buy quite a bit of vinyl on your first purchase, you'll be mixing back and forth between 3 songs. It's hard to practice if you have nothing to practice with, right? If you have a friend who owns TTs, you can always practice with his/hers. At clubs/raves, they always have TTs for a DJ to use, but they will never have records for you to use (that I know of). So, for me, I'm going to build a collection while I use CDs, and when I have enough for a Turntable, I'll get one, and then another later on. What do you think, does that make sense?

yea, you know what?
i think in your case maybee your doing the right thing since you dont have Compacts...

so maybe starting with CDs wasent such a bad idea...
think i should hav made the transition sooner...

Dj 2Tall, I completely understand your situation. You already have CDs to mix on, so if you get tables, you'll still be able to mix with your CD players, and use your tables increasingly as you get more records. That'll work out well. Thanks for the advise, though. I wish you luck with your new decks!

Does anybody else have more CD player suggestions? I'm really considering the Numark CDN-25's. What do you think?

I have the denon 2600F now, and i really like it (my parents not), but if i where you, i would try the CD-players availeble to you. Then you can see wich one is easier working, etc... But I have one main problem with the frontloaders from pioneer: When you have 2 TT's, 2 frontloaders and an 19" mixer, you need a lot of space to install all these things next to eachother...
