Stanton DFX 1

Did a search on the Stanton DFX 1 and found nothing.

Has anyone ever used one of these units?

A trackball...Neato.

Or does this thing fall under 'Crap to Avoid'?

I've only heard of a very few people that owned it and from their opinion it's crap. If you need a cheap effects processor, then check our the Alesis Ineko. I've used mine for years now and its still going strong. It also works really well too.

Here's what we got on our site for this unit:

Welcome to a new level of audio effects control

Introducing the world's first trackball controlled audio signal processor. The DFX-1 features 85 percent effect presets, which are synchronized to any audio source on-the-fly using Stanton's advanced BPM engine. Designed for both live and recording applications, the DFX-1 has both RCA & 1/4" connections (a first for tabletop DJ effects).

Have a Ball!

Since the trackball's X axis & Y axis each let you control separate effect parameters, you can simultaneously control the effect speed and feedback (or cutoff and resonance on the filter effects) while using a wide smooth sweep. You can even hold one axis while completely controlling (tweak) the other. Start with your favorite presets and deviate from there creating even more dynamic effects. Give a quick spin of teh trackball for hyper filter effects or around the globe for more transitional fluid effects.

Trackball control (Patent Pending) Tweak various effect parameters simultaneously using the DFX-1's integrated trackball controller.

85 Presets The DFX-1 is comprised of 8 basic effects (Echo, Stereo Pan, Transformer, Flanger, Filter, Auto-Filter, Reverb, and Pitch Shifter) and various combinations of effects for a total of 85 presets.

BPM Analysis The DFX-1 utilizes an advanced BPM engine to synchronize the effects to the beat of the music. The BPM counter features 3 BPM range settings from 60-240 BPM and a tap function.

Beat Selection Create different rhythmic patterns of effects using the 5 Beat Selector buttons to instantly change the effects speed.

Dry or Wet Control the mix of clean signal vs. processed signal using the Dry/Wet mix knob.

See the Light Bright LCD screen displays selected preset, type of effect, BPM count, and exact point of X/Y parameters.

Get Connected Use the DFX-1 live or in the studio using the provided RCA & 1/4" line inputs and outputs.

i haven't used it, but the controlability looks like it leaves a lot to be desired. the trackball is basically a cheap version of the touch pad on a kaoss pad.. the wet/dry knob dfoesn't look like its set up for fast action either.

in my opinion, you should save your money and go for something that is worth that money, like an efx500 or a kaoss pad.
