Question £350 to spend on a mixer! help!

Can u help?

Im upgrading my mixer and i have around 450 UK Sterling to spend on a mixer and new needles. This leaves me with 350 odds on a mixer.

I have thought about the following mixers:

Gemini FX 7000 (£199)
Stanton SMX 501 (£245)
Denon DNX 100 (£249)
Vestax PCV 275 (£275)
Numark DXM PRO (£289)
Vestax PMC 05Pro-Mk3 (£294)
Denon DNX 300 (£379)

I would like a mixer with effects allthough i would pick quality over effects any day. I have a behringer mixer and im really fed up of how shabby / bad quality it is (and with so many tiny faults).

A 3 channel mixer would be a plus side for me since i work alot with input from the pc, but its not really major.

I really cant decide and i have been researching for a few weeks now. It seams that there are very few Dj equipment review websites so its down to u guys on TA to help if u can!

Any pics of these mixers that u have taken yourself wud be cool also.

Also if u know of any other mixers not mentioned above, please do state them if they are around that price margin!

Thanx in advance TA!

I own a pcv-275,i love it but it has a couple of faults like i dont like the crossfader. Not the greatest response, and when you go from 1-2,when you get near 2 fully it just shuts the 1st channels volume totaly, this isnt the best thing but then again you can get a perry & giles pcv-275 crossfader upgrade.

I would honestly like to suggest the stanton smx-501, but i had one die after a week of owning it, so it's a pos. As for gemini and numark, i wouldn't put them as my first choice either. As for the vestax pmc-05mk3, it only has a two band eq, but works wonders as a battle mixer w/ it's Alps faders. As for the denons, i haven't tried them but i've head good things about the dnx-300, and i know how reliable penny & giles faders are. As for the pcv-275, it's a great dance mixer but the lack of cf curve and long&stiff up-faders makes it poor for scratching.

One mixer i can easily recomend that you'll love and would be in your price range would be the Ecler Smac Pro30. It has good faders, effect send-return, good eqs, cf curve control, and sound quality is great.

That would be my fist choice in this price range. Otherwise if you decide to spend some more serious cash, i couldn't say enough good things about the Rane Empath as a solid, reliable, sexy feel good mixer. I love mine to death...

Number 1 i dont use a crossfader (at all), plus i dont do hardly any scratching, so the xfaders really mean nothing to me. I normally turn them off and / or disconnect them completely.

The Ecler series layout seams very wierd to me and i dont think i would be up for using such a mixer but the Empath looks good, pity about the price (£745, djm 600 with £140 change for that price!).

Cheers for the feedback so far!

I assumed you scratch b/c of some of your mixer choices.

Yep thats the only thing that draws me back from the ecler..the smac series with its weird faders, although the products are quite solid and reliable. The 275 is built like a tank its awesome in my eyes, but yes if you would like to bitch in couple hundred whatever you are paying with then the empath..djm500..or even the xone:32,are awesome picks, plus you can get a good deal from djmart.com from daniel there.

Well, i have the Vestax PCV 275 for mixing trance and i have no complaints about it - superb sound quality + very reliable. Ive had it a few months now and its still working exactly like its just out the box.

I used to own a gemini ps-540i. Sound quality was shit and it started getting crackling from all the knobs after few months of use. (had gemini turntables as well, which were also shit) so i wouldnt recommend gemini.

One of the first things I look for is smooth handeling. Lose, crackly, or sticky knobs and faders are a bitch. Therefore, Stanton and Gemini are out. Numark is famous (at least with me) for it's smoothness. Also, Numarks are good quality and probably the best priced as well.

If you can, try feeling any mixer before you buy it.

This is what I'd recommend: Numark DXM 06

No 3 channels, but.. it does have kills and efects

Happy hunting! Good Luck
