Selling Out

** Public Announcement **

Yes, you heard me right. I am "selling out". I have decided I am tired of waiting for the perfect chance to play out my progressive sounds so I am going to start spinning the more popular house, hard house, top 40, *shudder* rap, whatever it takes to start getting booked around here. I have spent way too much money on my equipment and music for it to just sit in my bedroom.

I have the mixing skills but no where to show them off, so this is the new approach. Maybe after getting my name out a little more I will ease it back into the styles I really like to play....

Hmm Dirk well at least you're giving something different a try, so good luck with that. Personally I hold the loyalty to my musical tastes as more important than my skills as a DJ. DJing for me is just a tool I can use to convey my tastes in music to others, I guess maybe if I was a better DJ I'd be more eager to push myself as a performer... but for now it's a little bit more about the tunes themselves and building a nice set than displaying my skill.

I can see where you're coming from though, so like I said, the best of luck mate.

Trust me I see where you are coming from and know how you feel. Like Rememberance said, my heart is only into the stuff I already play. I'm confident if I gathered up the currently top ten hip hop, gay house...whatever the hell trendy people listen to these days, I could outmix any of these Julio's who think the 15-30 second crossfades are mixing.

But...anyone who was really into that music would be able to tell that my heart aint into hip hop and the other. kinda a catch22 for me.

Hehe, yeah the Bedrock - Forge was the perfect opening track at the time I was recording Symbiosis 2. Also had to put it on the all breaks mix. I woulda played it in Austin when I was playing all the breaks had I had it with me. Maybe next time for sure.

Well I appreciate all the support guys. I really doubt you will ever see me spin hiphop, no matter what I say, because I can't stand it. But as for the popular remixes of pop songs and popular house, this will probably be the next step for me. I have also been playing around with hardhouse which seems to reach a more diverse audience so who knows where I am going with it all -- I guess it depends on whatever someone wants me to play.

I don't think there's a problem with diversifying your music, since I believe each genre takes a slightly different approach to successfully mix.

As for the price of my equipment and gigs etc.... I used to think that way too ("I don't want to play gigs"). A couple years ago. But once you really find that you love DJing and your skills improve, you will want to show off -- trust me. And I am far from the greatest DJ, but I know I have an edge over lots. The only thing that has me second guessing myself is how I will perform under pressure (ie: a crowd). Time will tell.

But anyways guys, thanks for all the positive motivation and I am sure when it all boils down to it, I will stick with what I love in the end anyways.

I don't post often but sit back and watch.. But like said earlier.. You gotta do what you gotta do.. While spinning in Amarillo and OKC, I had to play alot of hip - hop track circa 1998 - 2001 but could allways dig for certain tracks that could cross - over to House and maybe , just maybe some trance tracks at the time. Ie: Jay - Z Big Pimpin' to Quinn Black : Shake them haters off to Fatboy slim : Rockafella Shank to Groove Armada : Shaking that ass to Sash : Encore un fois and the list still goes on.You love for your taste will never go away but to get gigs you have to play to the crowd.

You gotta do what you gotta do. You could look at this as a good opportunity for you to learn how to play in public--how to read a crowd, work in requests, not get flustered.

Good luck to you Dirk.
