Studio setup question for the pros - please help if you know!

A techy question for someone who may know:

I have 3 HD interfaces - 2 RME multifaces and 1 MOTU MKII. I also have 2 external FX units - TC Fireworx and TC M-One XL.

Motu is my "main" interface because the monitors are connected to it.

this is a new setup and I'm trying to wire it up but having no luck so far.

What I want to accomplish:

1. Both RME interfaces must be able to communicate back and forth (i/o) with the main unit - e.g. MOTU.

2. I must be able to route the sound from any of the interfaces to the external FX's (M-One and fireworx) and then send back the processed sound to the recording interface.

Obviously all interfaces have a digital I/O ports (ADAT/TOS/SPDIF) as well as analog i/o.

Please help!

Much thanks!

Edit: See diagram for more info:

Firstly do you want to be able to route via hardware or software?
Secondly why do you not just use the motu and sell the other pieces?

since you want to monitor through your mkII i would connect my FX processors to that unit. this way the outputs from the multiface(synth outs) can be routed through your sequencer busses to an audio track > FX processors > monitors.

that's my guess off the top of my head

so as it seems... you basically want an FX send/return matrix for your 2 processors.

YOu should be able to spare some digital or analog i/o on the MOTU and use them as "sends" that you route sound to the units individually. Then you need to have returns from the units that go back into the same output channel.

in my professional opinion... you should get a patch bay for this, so that you don't have to hardwire everything to the FX units.
A patchbay is more customizable and modular for any desired signal path you may want.

You dont get what i said.... Why would he just keep a audio interface? Im asking why he has multiple interfaces. If you can try and use the spidif i/o on the mulifaces for the effects if possible..... going from D to A and then back to D is not a good idea, the sound would begin to degrade.....

Fr0st - the 3 interfaces are there to accomodate 13 sound sources without using the patchbay. 13 sound sources x 2 channels (L/R) = 26 Inputs, while MOTU only provides 8. (well, plus 2 mic pre's).

I just spent few days racking my brain trying to figure out the solution.

There are 2 applications for this setup:

1. Playing around - e.g. - no recording, just mucking around
2. Recording - once it works, recording will just fall into place.

The desired outcome I want to have is to be able to send signal from any interface to FX (if desired) or straight through and to monitor.

So here's my thought, see what ppl think:

Daisy chain the setup one way, with the send going towards MOTU, like so:

[RME 2]--->[RME 1]--->[MOTU]<===>[FX 1]<---[FX 2]

Sh!t... I'm so confused... Now I'm thinking, ok, how do I record processed sound on a specific channel....

Damn..
this is soooooooo confusing.
