ok different types of trance

I know that there are different subgenres to trance (ie psy trance). However I have no idea what they sound like and/or how they differ from just trance. Could someone please list the subgenres of trance and two or three songs from that subgenre? That would be cool thanks

Goddamn, I really need to finish the guide I've been working on.

Expect February right now, I think.

As for the original post, use the search function. You'll find many threads on the subject. Or reference Ishkur.

Not to be confused with Progressive Trance, which is (mostly) a genre to itself separate from Progressive (House).

According to these differences, in what subgenre would you set Markus Schulz Mixes made on the GDJB ?

An accessible and marketable offshoot of progressive house, variously called American Progressive, Miami Progressive, or McProg.

thx m8! I was a little time considering GDJB to be trance music, but i realised that it was way too different music than the one played in ASOT, which i consider to be trance.

American Prog has some weird similarities to Armin-style epic trance, so you're not entirely wrong at relating the two. American Prog is essentially house-based, but has twinkly, flighty melodies of 32+ bars like epic.

Keep in mind that epic trance on ASOT is only one subgenre of the entire trance genre, just a very popular and well-marketed one.

I wouldn't call that euro-trance, more like euro-dance or just pop-dance. I wouldn't say that Euro-trance is a subgenre within trance, it's what psy people usually call what we would define as "regular trance" in opposition to psy or goa-trance. Armin van Buuren and John 00 Fleming is good examples of euro-trance artists in the true meaning of the term.

Psy-trance:

The Muses Rapt - Spiritual Healing
Cosmosis - Spores From Space
Green Nuns Of The Revolution - Conflict

Goa trance:

Hallucinogen - LSD
Subcouds - On Red
Blue Planet Corporation - Overbloody Flood

Although there are many subgenres within these too of course. Actually, I think it would be more fair to say that psy/goa is a genre of it's own than a sub-genre of trance....

hehe..unfortunately that's likewise become with J00f, though some of his sets he plays some wicked trance, prog-psy, whilst in his older sets and compilations he includes some wicked prog. house, prog. trance imo..
