well, coming from the same area i've seen this before. Geese are notorious for chassing people and plucking at their heads and hair if you get too close to their offspring. There are many reported cases on golf courses during the early early spring season where geese have gone nuts on golfers.

I once had a Canada Goose peck at the pack of my knees as I walked.... crazy thing... I just kept walking and it didn't chase me (thank god)
