SoundForge and the gaps

Sometimes when I am done recording the mix in SoundForge, it has gaps at some of the areas. They are even indicated on the wave diagram of the track. Vertical dashed line with the word "gap" at the top. When I play those areas, it sounds like it is skipping. Most of the time though, they are really close to each other at some section of the track. Then it sounds bad. Pretty weird....

only time I've had that is when I've let the battery run out on the laptop, when I plug it in and un-sleep the laptop, it has those gaps.
Is it possible your computer is running out of memory cos you have too many apps open when you are recording?

You need more memory.

You're not the one that said you're having problems with soundforge though. I know with audio programs, be it a sequencer or a recording program or whatever if you get gaps and pops and strange noises its because you need more memory or a faster processor.

I have like 2 gigs of ram and P4 3.06 Ghz CPU.

Is that not enough?

That should be, soundforge works fine for me and I have a much slower computer.

The gaps come from the computer not being able to keep up with the sound coming in. I once had a laptop w/ 1GB ram, but after that ram buffer was filled, i would get gaps, usually around 45 - 60 minute mark. The actual cause of the gaps for you could be a lot of things... crappy sound card, spyware/malware, other items taking up too much of your cpu resources, bad ram chip, crappy HDD, etc. Only thing you can do is take the time to properly troubleshoot it to identify the cause of the problem.

Spyware could be a prob, I cleaned my PC the other day, whole bunch of crap found. As for HD and Soundcard, I have Seagate Barracuda SATA 80 GB and SB Audigy ZS. So no problems with these two.

I also get the same problem when I record a set and I haven't rebooted my PC for a couple of days...a simple reboot before recording takes care of those problems for me....and yeah, as somebody else mentioned - try to record on another harddrive, one with at least 8 MB cache...
