Mark was the one guy in Charlotte news that you either loved or hated, but everybody watched just to see what he would do next. Perhaps his most famous incident was when he cast aspersions at Gastonia residents (but who hasn't, really?) and was taken off the air for a few weeks. Mark sometimes sang the weather, using Broadway showtunes to tell us what tomorrow would bring. Mark rarely spoke below a yell, and had no problem throwing barbs at his co-hosts. Barbs returned to Mark would inevitably cause him to launch a verbal attack on himself, leaving no doubt that the co-hosts never minded his antics.
The reason for Mark's dismissal? By checking into rehab, he has now embarassed (!!!) the station. Considering the fact that practically nobody watches any of the Fox 18 newscasts with any regularity at all, one would think any recognition would be good recognition. Alas, station management disagreed, and bid Mathis an unceremonious adieu.
