total recorder - hands down. very simple, everything you need, nothing you don't.

I'd say the exact opposite. I'd LOVE to say TR, but when I had it installed, it's drivers mucked around with all sorts of other audio software, which pretty much forced me to uninstall. Soundforge will do a little more than you NEED it to, but it's not that huge, and it works great, doesn't fuck up my settings like total recorder did.

Total Recorder totally fucked up my sound card, by adding that dreaded software emulation. Had to unistall it and put Sound Forge. No more of that Total Garbage.

How is it with the quality of recorded set?
Is there a difference in quality between the programs you use to record your set or it not depends on the program?

My second question:
When I use to record my set, using vinyls, isnt the quality degraded because of the analog>digital and digital>analog converters on soundcard?
Do you get better quality when you connect the mixer to the amplifier and then to the CD-recorder or something?
I have Pioneer DJM300 mixer and Sound Blaster Platinum 5.1 soundcard.

I use Sound Forge 7, with a SB Audigy Platinum. The RCA's from the mixer go into the aux2 RCA inputs (card came with extra bay full of inputs/outputs) and I've never noticed any problem with the sound quality. YMMV, but I don't think that TR vs. SF7 would make much of a differance.

Well, I didnt mean sound quality problems.
But from the decks come analog sound, and thats the advantage in term of quality, compared to cd´s or mp3s.
But maybe when you get the sound through soundcard, you lose the advantage because of the converters. That was my point.

I really really doubt your going to notice the differance. Most of the analog "warmth" is just small imperfections/pops/etc, which will be recorded just fine . I don't think you can do anything about it getting switched to digital though... CD's are digital, MP3's are digital... Put a record player in your car perhaps ?
