Could ASOT's discontinuation be a big blow to trance?

I gave this some thought and wondered. Armin used to hold ASOT once a week for 2 hours and thousands of listeners from around the world would tune in for that time period.
On an average, Armin would play atleast 6-7 new tunes/week and that indirectly means he was promoting 6-7 artists per week. Not to mention, the tremendous amount of support his label provided signing artists off these very forums such as Mike Foyle and Vadim Zhukov to name a few.
In short, the global exposure that trance music got whilst ASOT was around was tremendous. Granted that a lot of this exposure was the same formulaic style of trance, but to a new listener it was just trance and to the rest of us just 'ASOT'.

My question is:

Globally, trance is already in a sad state of affairs. It is not a thriving genre. It is a surviving genre powered by the DJ elite and the budding artists. The tremendous ASOT exposure is now temporarily non-existent.
I feel that this could be a BIG blow to trance music in the long run. Possibly to the point of near extinction. Think about it ppl.

Edit: My apologies. I already posted this in the cor. Please reply in here.

I think another show (or combination of shows) would be best to take ASOT's place.

For instance, if a station signed J00f, Sander K, Jon O Bir, and DeepDish to do a show once a month, but aired them all consistantly on the same day of the week and time, they could draw a huge audience. This would be a great way to keep things fresh while hearing a wide variety of music.

Di.fm already hosts J00f's Global Trance Grooves every second Tuesday of the month.

i know, but imagine if they signed those other 3 to play the other 3 tuesdays of the month. All one show name, but with a different focus depending on the week. A show like that could give ASOT's highest ratings a run for it's money.

to be quite frank, i haven't listened to J00f's show live for some time now..online radio shows never really appealed to me unless it's someone i'm quite fond of and have the spare time, or unless it's one of my m8s doing a set...

Well Di.fm's trance channel has thousands of listeners at all times and live shows almost every day that contain new tracks. On average DI has twice as much listeners as the next most popular internet radio station of any genre. So your worries are unfounded and fruitless.

Very well, I retract my idea.

No. While it's nice to have all of these big, massive parties multiple times in the year, it's also nice to have some creativity within the genre, not over-used, generic, effortless ideas (typically aired on ASOT).

I wouldn't mind sacrificing a couple of popular events, big club nights, or the like and wouldn't mind seeing Trance go back "underground" to a certain extent as long as the music became creative.

In order to clarify I must state that if your only concern is simply lack of exposure (via the internet at least...), then I must also state that DI.fm exposes more people to trance by far than ASOT. It has been around longer and will be around after the rest go under. You have no reason to worry in that respect.

I'm not saying that it will; I highly doubt that it will ever happen. I'm just saying that because it seems to be what Varun was getting at with this post; "ASOT is dead, so Trance wont be as popular anymore."
