i forget the model number but sony's are pretty good. although know this, i bought my sony about 3 years ago...maybe 2. the buttons on the faceplate are all messed up. source = turns it off, off switches the source..sometimes the eject button will work..and the volume won't always turn down. i really shouldn't have given my remote away

I would never recommend Sony for car audio, and to be fair, you begin saying Sony are good but you demonstrate how bad their gear is...

Most people just find Sony car gear to be substandard, though... quality is fine if you want eq'd pop clarity for factory or cheap 2-way speakers. For anything else, leave alone!

I'm running a Panasonic whilst I'm low on funds but ideally the lowest your budget should extend to are Pioneer's, and they make some excellent MP3/CD units.
If you can afford it, go for an Alpine. They're second to none, although they produce a very clean sound and as such some find it to be too harsh. I believe they're more for providing a clean source to seperate amplifiers which would then warm the sound.

All this, just opinion by the way!

I bought a Clarion for around $300 CAN about 2 years ago
it is in a lowered ... very rough riding old VW Bus. It never skips.
I'm impressed.

My friend bought a different model similar to mine last year...he's very happy with his too. It's in a rough riding lowered Cabriolet.

I would definately recommend Clarion.

The factory unit in my Pug was a Clarion changer, it was excellent. Only reason I had to go aftermarket was because the factory head had no pre-outs.
I assume Clarion aftermarkets are equally as good!

PS: Nice one on the camper, I love 'em. Wish they weren't expensive and hard to get hold of here.
