i was just thinking, with trance radio shows being on at say...2am, 3am, or even 4am...how does the radio station know anybody is even listening?

As far as i know, radio technology does not allow for the transmitter to recieve info on how many listeners are out there...so how does one decide if a show is doing well or not?
