well the answer is yes and no. No, it will be harder to clearly hear what's playing through the system b/c of delay from the bass, and distortion. And yes, it will be harder for people to hear screwups b/c of the loudness, delayed bass, and distortion.

I know you don't want us to tell you how to mix, but get used to mixing in your phones for this one...

Club systsms however are very good at masking minor mistakes.

As for how well you can hear them yourself, it all depends on the monitors to be honest

ive noticed that it seems to be that the louder u play the music the more it seems to hide mistakes when mixing.

this is one thing about some venues that irritates me.. i used to play at a place with a pretty nice system, but quite shoddy monitors. well, the monitors were actually nice speakers, but there was a ridiculous delay on them. i didnt notice the first time i stepped up to the decks, but as soon as i put my phones on, i immidiately turned off the monitor. had to mix solely in the phones in that booth. also, mixing in the phones almost guarantees you that your mixing will be accurate (based on equip) because the audio sources are taking the same path.

It depends. If you like mixing with monitors then I hope they have a nice monitor setup for you. If you like mixing in the headphones then I hope the monitor isn't so loud it forces you to use the one ear method.

from my experience it is very difficult to mix soley in your headphones in a club. the syetm is way too loud, you'd have your headphone volume cranked well the hell up. I beat match using one ear and take my headphones off when I bring the track in and mix off the monitors. Then again, I've never been faced with having to deal with shitty monitors.

A lot of times its not only the monitor but also the huge ass sound system thats scattered thoughout the club that throws you off. I've also had to spin in venues where I could hear the sound from the next room and that kept throwing me off. i always think its easier. I can feel the bass from teh system and it gets me pumped up.

If you are DJing at an underage rave party, it is very doubteful that the sound system will be decent. I recommend getting the sound technician to turn the monitor speaker off and mix in your headphones. I DJed this weekend at a venue where the monitor was so damn loud that I had to turn the headphone volume all the way up..tho even the sound in the headphones was getting distorted

surely you can adjust the output level of the monitors via your mixer? also have you considered headphones with better sound isolation? those two combined and the only problem you have to worry about is whether they even bother to give you monitors in the first place (as they so often dont in the boiler house )
