it usually goes like this, except sometimes interupted by trying to find just the right patch/preset: (i dont tweak the sounds alot until ive got something full and flowing...):
1. Chord Progression. i lay down what will be the defining progression in the song which is'nt necesarily played in its entirety untili the song builds up.
2. Lead/Rythym. i usualy pull the lead right FROM the chord prog., but sometimes i just do it from scratch, right on top. the rythym comes in when filling in the gaps left behind so far, and this is where im scrounging for that perfect preset to use.
3. Bass. this is where it really starts to sound full, and you can get some ideas on how the track should flow by noting which one (1,2, or 3) is most dominant.
4. Kick/percussion I usally have a simple thing going in the back up to this point, which is kind of like a metronome, but with the kick/HH/cymbal. 4. is where i start tweaking to get everything to have the same feel and start flowing
5. Tweak. this is so tedious, but its nessecary to go back over each part to work out the kinks at this point.
thats as far as i can go right now... i dont have the patience to do any Mastering/EQing, or using plug-ins specificaly designed to make my tracks not sound like crap. so here they sit... sounding like crap, and unfinished, just like this thr
