software question....

Ihad a quick question about installing purchased software on multiple computers. I think I may just bite the bullit and buy the full Ableton version, but I'd want to run it on my PC, as well as my laptop. I'm pretty sure that there shouldn't be a problem doign this, but just wanted to make sure that it was possible. I could forsee an issue with products that have to be registered online, the sites not authorizing multiple installations of the same disc. Thanks for any help.

you can run ableton on multiple machines. i can run floops on multiple machines too. most VSTis as well. certain ones im not too sure about. all of the products by native instruments have an elaborate registration process and i believe you are only authorized to use it on a single machine at a time. that said, everyone said that about windows XP and ive used 1 home edition copy on 2 computers. as a general rule though you should be fine.

another pain in the ass is logic. Every pc you use you need the usb dongle to be plugged in for use. But, what happends if the dongle breaks, or you loos it? can it be replaced for cheap?

Can you do it and is it legal to do it are 2 different things. Some companies will let you install it on multiple machines as long as you only run it on one. Dongles work great in this instance. Most companies, however, will only want it installed on 1 computer at a time. The license that comes with the computer (that part that you click agree and fail to read when installing software) will tell you specifically what you can and cannot do with their software.

I found this on Ableton's website:
quote:
How many times can I Unlock Live?

You can Unlock Live two times if you have registered your Serial Number on our registration page. Ableton will give you more unlock codes if you send us a brief mail and an adequate explanation of the circumstances.

As for the other items you question about, it would be better to contact the manufacture directly.
