Sea and Sky (192 full)

Hi all,
been looking for some serious reviews for my music, so here's a track that I finished recently:

Sea and Sky.mp3

I've been working on it for the past month. I would love to know what you all think of it

***EDIT*** Link fixed.

interesting intro, piano is clear, bass sounds a little retro- good retro tho. I like the first synth, and backgound is very nice. Break-then comes back in nicely(i like that its not a long drawn out predictable break). Seems to distort a bit in the hi's for some reason... 2nd break and it goes hard? didnt expect this after the epic-ish begining. I am enjoying this happy melody, and besides the hi's I dont see anything i can complain about. Great atmosphere and sweet overall arangement- just gotta eq those hi's a bit. I think you might be clipping too...

yeah that retro bass... hehehe
I threw that in when the song was in it's concept stage, and I kinda liked it so it stayed.

Your comment on the distorted highs puzzles me though. I've just re-checked the mix and nothing indicates any distortion or clipping. What you might be hearing though is a distorted resonant bass with an LFO sweeping a parametric EQ. It's there deliberately but if you think it's too bright I'll see what I can do about it.

Thanks for the feedback

Heya, saw this link in another thread and thought I'd check it out.

Nice track! The arrangement is very original and interesting.

Pads at the start are sweeet. Overall, intro very nice. Sort of has a 98/99 feel to it, which can only be a good thing in my books. The melody is sweet and I'm loving the acidy synth underlying it.

I think the kick could maybe do with some more prescence in the mix though, it seems to get drowned out a bit.

I really lke the change from epic to a harder style at 2.33. Has an early fatboy slim feel too it what with the 303 sounds. Very nice. Not sure I like the change back to a softer style later on, but thats personal taste.

Theres this sort of wha wha sound at 1.35 which seems a bit out of place with the rest of the track. Could try delaying some more to get rid of the cheese.

Other than that, top track!

Well I must admit, I am fond of the earlier trance styles.

Cheers for the reviews you two. I'll probably post another track up here again to see how that goes.

- everything comes in too suddenly, though it may just be me listening to too much prog lately
- that break at 4:50 is sound very cool with he fading metal percs, or synths
- interesting structure
- the tune is a whole, could use some strings or pads
- melodies are ok, nothing special but work nicely to give the tune energy
