Mixing Using "Virtual" Turntables, MP3, WMA, etc files

I've been experimenting lately on how to go about mixing two mp3,wma, etc files on a software called Mixvibes pro 5. Apparently, it is simply almost impossible to scratch using the software. If anyone out there has this software, I would appreciate an input. However, my main concern is keeping the two songs in "Perfect" sync throughout the whole mix. All I've discovered so far is that you can match the BPM using the master tempo and its not all that bad, but I am curious as to how you would go about mixing two songs with different BPMs using the Pitch Bend function on the software. It does have the slider, but how can you figure out exactly at what level to keep it to have a smooth uninterrupted mix. In addition to the pitch and tempo, there is also a speed slider, but the problem is that whenever you automatically the two songs, the software matches the tempo of the two songs. That just may be the way to do it, but is it possible to mix the two songs without having to do anything with the tempo?

I reccommend using something like Traktor or PCDJ Red.

i used mixvibes - not any way to scratch that im aware of.. just match and mix

id stay away from any auto mixing that any software offers unless someone knows of one that actually works...

as far as keeping them matched play around with the pitch and tempo some - the speed is somewhat weird and changes up your tracks alittle too much for my liking...

chances are youll have to make small adjustments to one track or another throughout the mix as they'll more than likely drift somewhere sooner or later...

personally i only used the software to make quick mixes from one track to another when needed since i dont have a CD deck - if you want to keep a long mix id suggest using a diff program - mixvibes is too simple

Hmm I'm have this program too (only a demo but it has the important functions) and I discovered finally an easy way to get the same tempo between two tracks:
You can put some function panels in the program if you click on a yellow pictogram above in the screen. Now choose the functionpanel AUTO BPM. You wil get a monitor screen where you can see the beat of both tracks in a different color. Now it's a peace of cake to match the beat of the tracks: you can clearly see on the screen wich beat is going faster. Now speed the slower one with the pitch control and see then on the monitor screen if the tempo is the same or if there’still a litte difference.(to get the 2 beats started at the same point use the tempo control) Just continue with speed up or slow down and you’ll see on the monitor screen exactly if the tempos are the same or not. Good luck!

The correct way of doing it is by ear, like people on turntables do

From starting on the Virtual Tables I came into the problem with Traktor, kept drifting even though I clicked Auto Synced(My Sound Card?), I wanted to do some scratching(?) on the mixer Kill Bass/Trebble/Volume, too awkward using the keyboard, I jumped on some Decks for the First time, and I much prefer the hands on feel, than using the mouse as the crossfader and hotkeys for Bass/Trebble/Volume/Cue/Pitch/Filters

uh huh..

Doesn't clicking some buttons to synch the bpms take like almost all the fun out of it?

I've been using Mix vibes for a long ass time now while I save up for some turntables. It's a pretty good mixing program, but it's the only one I've ever used so I can't compare it to others. The bpm, for the most part, stays where it's supposed too but there are times where a song you had perfectly synced at the start of the song is not even close at the end. It lets you record your mixes into wav format which I send to friends. As for keeping it synched and riding the pitch, I use the jog wheel instead of the slider which I don't really like. Spinning the jog wheel is like sliding your fingers on the platter of a turntable to slow it down. That usually works to keep the songs matched. Hope that helps, I only use the demo of the program so I don't know if I would recommend getting the full version but you should definatly give the demo a try.

The real version has also many effects but the program hasn't a good BPM counter. And it's very annoying that the mixes being recorded in wav, because if I want to send it to other guys it takes so long

I use either Atomix or Alcatec BPM studio when I mix. I've been doing it for a few years now. I mainly do it for my own listening and for friends. I sometimes get my stuff played in a big club by a friend.

I used to DJ when I was younger. But at this point I don't feel like spending $3000 for a decent dj setup. So this way it becomes cheaper and good enough for me.
