Looking for some feedback from some people that can relate, and that may be dealing with this problem themselves. I'm not looking to start a self help thread. Just what you did if you went thru this problem. I'm 26, and got wrapped up in the Detroit scene when it was hot. Had alot of fun, (don't get me wrong) but I also got into the drugs a little more than I should of. Anyway, I always LOVED the music and always got that feeling from good electronic music that I never got from any other type of music. So after pulling away from the scene a bit and getting off the drugs I decided to buy some equipment, and started spinning. Well, the drugs never left, (the scene) and sometimes I get concerned about what the future holds if I continue to be apart of the scene. I don't want to go back to that misery I came from, but I would love to continue with the music.Thanks for any feedback.

the drugs definitely got me into this whole scene 100%, but the music has kept me. I remember absolutely living for the weekend...going out, dropping pills..it was my life for like a year and a half. The music being played was so secondary back then. But everyone eventually outgrows that stage, and I did too. I still like to go out and get messed up every once in a wwhile, don't get me wrong, but now I'm going out to hear great music and learn from the DJs playing it. I don't know if you're worried about getting back into drugs...i don't know how much self control you have. But for me, DJing basically replaced my whole drug phase. Whereas my money used to go towards drugs and alcohol, now it goes towards records, gear and software.

+1, I was your average pot head shroom goer till a buddy of mine let me come to one of his house partys. Everyone from the 3 areas in idaho came to them every friday and saturday night average attendence 60 people. I first came for the drugs, did this fora good year. Then I got into the music even more because I played the guitar and loved the structure of trance tunes. Then when I was noticing my 3.7 drop to a 2.3 because of double dropping every weekend I quit. And stayed for the music and bought my self some techs and decent equipment. I will say this, those pills helped me crack my shyness shell and start a conversation with someone even if I never seen them before and im sure its been helping me get jobs in the past year also not being afraid of the awkwardness of the first metting. Thats my 2 cents.

For me drugs have helped alot in my artistic development. Whether it be music,graphic design or fashion design which I all do, it has inspired me a hella lot. soem of you may think this is sad, but I think that people who say that drugs are entirely evil and wrong are sad and narrow-minded. True that they are bad for your body and brain, but I believe that some moderate drug use can help you gain access to other remote parts of your brain and consciousness..not just when you are high but even afterwards.
It depends what you want from life and in your future. If you wana go all out towards music and make a living through it, then moderate use of drgus is fine perhaps even beneficial. IF not, I suggest you withdraw completely from the scene, as through reading your post I got the impression that its beyond your control.

i quite agree with this, and while im not a heavy drug user, drugs open up different parts of u, parts that are there, but need to be released.

a big plus one to that. this pretty much describes me to a "T"

like most said its a stage....mine lasted a couple years some of the best nights of my life........but i wouldn't be so concerned for your future......just worry about now and do your thing


i have said before and i will say it again.....say drugs are bad or whatever u want.....but don't expect to be a great trance dj if u have never eaten hits.......u need to have experienced what people are feeling on that dance floor in order to give it to them correctly

I disagree with you there mate sorry- quite strongly actually. Although i can see why you would say that- i see your perspective.
