TA girls: Would you take the last name of your husband?

Pretty valid question I'd say. Would you take his family name or keep yours? If yes which name would your kids have? And then which name would your grandkids have?

when i'm @ work, i'm seeing more and more female customers who are married retain their maiden name followed by their married name.

if i was a father i wouldn't mind having my kids use that as well .. ie. surname1-surname2.. how they choose to denote the surnames of their own children would be their choice ..

I think I would want to hyphenate it.

My first born son will take my last name. There is no one in my family to carry on the name, and so I want to have it carried somehow. Any other children can have the hyphenated, or his. I suppose it would be something he and I would have to discuss at some point.

A divorced judge once gave some great advise....keep your maiden name because nothing is guaranteed to last forever.

But the answer from this married person is:

maiden - married surname

Kid's definately get the same. Equal partners share everything and leave their egos at the door

In the name of tradition and family lineage i dont think i could marry a woman who wanted to drop my last name. Thousands of years of tradition should not go up in smoke just like that. If we hyphenate names what will happen in 2 or 3 generations? John Smith-Black-Jones-Brown???

no way! Its important to keep tradition and family name. Id maybe be willing to comprimise by having her keep her last name but definately not with the kids. No hyphens or funny stuff there.

Contrary to "progressive" thinking there is nothing wrong with tradition.

I suppose you have a reasonable demand there about No hyphens with the kids.

But I'm curious...why are you asking the question Jayx1...cud it be that you expect to get married some day? Who's the ideal lucky girl...don't tell me it's the pad commercial girl
