Use the TR-808 and TR-909 sounds that are out there.
These are the machines that made dance music possible 15+ years ago. There were no "techno kits" nor "trance kits" back then, it was all about whatever was available and making the most of it, usually via effects and processing.
I hope I don't come across as an arse (but I probably will) and it's certainly not directed at you or anyone in particular, but there are no certain sounds/samples that one must use to produce a certain kind of music... unless of course you just want to go the cookie cutter method of producing and just do exactly what's been done before.
If you want to push the boundaries of sound, ANY sound/sample/source can be used, it's just how YOU go about using it.
