Dunno Career vs. Peace Corps

I just wanted to see what path the majority of TAs would take if they ever found themselves in my shoes.

I was nominated to leave for Western Africa with the Peace Corp last year. My departure date is for June 25th of this year.

In the meantime, I've been working for an insurance agency, making a fair amount of money via commissions, and have built a desire to stay, begin my own agency and focus on my career instead.

Time to make a decision is quickly approaching for me. What would you choose???

i said "peace corp" because sheeeit, you can get any lame money hungry job you want here in the US anyday, go out and explore our world... i am a sucker for any new experiences, part of the reason i joined the army. you'll be amazed what goes on in other parts of the world... its like for some people in the US it wouldn't even for a second cross their mind the stuff that happens outside our country.

i'd rather travel on my own than fight for a cause i don't believe in.

i agree with you, but, if i don't have the money to travel on my own i might otherwise never get to see and experience it... so that would leave me with nothing. not only that, whether people believe in the cause or not, its out there happening, there isn't any getting around that. you can't deny an experience even if you don't like it, its going on outside our front doors... i would rather be there myself personally helping out there than someone else in my shoes with a kill em all US cowboy mentality. plus, my job with the army invovles humanitarian missions, we are a water unit. but anyways there wouldn't be any of that to worry about in the peace corp

Hot damn! If you got nominated, definitely do the Peace Corps man. You'll have plenty of time to become a corporate slave. Peace Corps Thailand rocked!

agreed. its not hard to find a job and lose urself into a blackhole of 60+ hr weeks raking in the cash. Im only 19 and ive done plenty of that. Ive worked since i was 13 in one respect or another and its taken until now for me to have a proper first holiday.

See the world, you can always come back to jobs such as that.
