Havent posted a tune on here in a while so I thought I'd put my latest one up for yall to critique. A piece of uplifting/melodic trance fresh from the studio of Joey Waters.

Whats up Joey

I like the pads that come in, and the snare/clap is good too...I'm waiting for a nice bassline......and here it is - different and works well...dark vibe to this one Joey so far, synths are very nice, and piano fits in well.
Just like myself, you need to work on mastering and mixing....it really fuckin depresses me does mastering and the fact I can't do it

ok , the kick is indeed crap - maybe it is the wrong sample on the whole you are using...so let us see:
the intro is quite good, but not much progression for a 2:20 intro, needs some more elements. The melodies are fine with me , i like them. The whole tune is ok but it seems you are a beginner. What are you using? It certainly sounds fruityish to me. I can help you with the mastering, find some decent kick for your track and add some percussion and arpeggiated filter sound on the background so it fills in your sound spectrum appropriately. I am sorry to say that i hear more distortion than tune :P But I am happy to say that you are instinctively trying to create your own style; upon speculating the track's structure, is nothing like that the whole bunch of boring stuff that are released now: intro-buildup-break-mainpart-buildup/buildown-small break-mainpart2 (repeat)-outro.....

I can help you with the mixdown (more important than mastering), which seems that this is your main problem (its natural, dont worry!)

You can check out my track too, by clicking here
It will give you a guidance on how the levels for each element should be...

PS: Please comment on my track too, at the thread given.

Fuser-Cy's track isn't that good, imo. He uses some crappy sounds at times, and overuse of reverb isn't exactly good in any tune... Imo

What you need to do, Joey, is to get a pair of quality headphones. Open ones, not closed. You need to sit down and listen to other productions - from Professional producers...And then HEAR how they produce. Then try to copy their sound. Also - a good tip is to watch out for the button in you producing-program called "Audio Out Clipping" That one lights up if your tracks is too loud

If you want, I can help on yout next tune...

Yeah... I've been producing for 7 years, and recently got signed Now, Joey here has massive potential. He just has to make each and single sound in his production crystal clear. Also Joey, remember to spread the sounds all over the frequenzie-spectre. Not too many instruments on the same freq-level you know

ok, Joey, i listened to your track, so here are my suggestions about it,

first of all, i think you need to change this kick to some sharper/punchier one, you also need to spend a bit more time to eqing it right. buildup sounds are good, sometimes sounds a bit weird to me, though, need eqing aswell, you should fill up the buildup with some percussion elements i would say, to make it a bit more interesting. melodies are good in the buildup, i would change that main lead synth for another one, though, but its just personal preference. i like the bassline, but as i already mentioned, i think all of the elements needs some serious eqing / mastering works. i like the main part and so, but again its sounding not really kickass, just because the eqing.

all in all, this one can turn out a really good track, just try experimenting with a lot of time on the eqing side, because eqing and mastering just as important as writing a whole track, in my opinion...

anyway, i looking forward to the final version of this track, and also watch out for your remix of Halcyon Kiss,

keep at it!

cheers,

Peter
