I'm looking for any minimal house or techno artists similar to Hawtin's style on "DE9: Closer to the Edit."

A friend of mine, who was a fan of Richie Hawtin, made me a mixtape and included a song that was so minimal yet the most funky I've ever heard... Then, he moved to NY. I'm on the quest to the find the name of that song and in turn find some similiar music along the way. It was a housy song that had alot of clicks, beeps and a very unique structure. The beginning was so unstructured and then formed a structured from towards the end that sounds very similar to the ending of #2 of DE9.

Anyways, I know it will be virtually impossible to ID the tune. Most importantly, I LOVED the style. Give me any albums or Dj's you recommend. Thanks.

There is a new various artists album out on richie hawtins label called minimize to maximize. That should give you a few tunes.

As pointed out kompakt records is probably the most consitently good label for releases.

Other quality labels are, trapez (especially there ltd series), traum, areal, sender, it is what it is, sub static and poker flat.

Matthew jonson is my favourite at the moment, his style is very distinctive.

Imo minimal music is definately where all the quality music is at, hence the reason a lot of dj's are boarding that band wagon.

Vladislav has made some great stuff, but he is usually way more experimental and abstract than the artists mentioned here. His album "Anima" is very good, and try some of his stuff as Luomo for more danceable material.

Another vote for Swayzak. Check out their two-disc mix album Groovetechnology V1.3

you're probly right about Green Velvet, but since he mentioned housey stuff, Green Velvet would likewise fit the requirements methinks. Apparently you've not heard much from W.J. Henze and Toni Rios as the latter's compilation, "Tune In," is all about minimal tech - at least the first CD is. WJ Henze makes straight up techno nowadays, but before he used to make some hard minimal tech, not to mention his amazing Time Splitter EP with Toni Rios, which is anything but straight-up tech..

As for Alexander Kowalski he's much more tech-house...so perhaps he doesn't fit very well...but then again, the person who created the thread may take a liking to that style as well, so who knows...

Also, Pascal's sets, at least some of his older ones, have a lot of minimal techno and tech-house incorporated in his sets...you really ought to hear them as well, wicked stuff...
