true. however there are some that everyone tend to do more often. i mix 32 or 64 bars, usually after the first break. i also like to layer the bassline of the next track over the break of the track playing to keep a dancefloor moving. i try to never resort to intro/outro mixing. if a track has a long intro with no beat i like slowly fading that in, and fading out the bassline with time so spare so the new kick comes in off beat to get the crowd going (not often, maybe once a few weeks). just experiment and have fun doing what you love doing

Ive seen some cool shit at the Dj championships with pool cues and chairs and stuff, but I like to cue the record with a fresh leg of lamb from my local butchers - it gives it that 'raw' sound.

If you've got cd decks you can loop a 4 bar beat and fade that in for however many bars you want. If it starts to loose the timing over more than 64 bars, you can just re-trigger the loop. I've done some mixes with the loop playing for half the song and then when I'm ready to switch over just unloop the section and wham... (or boom... or whatever) into the melody.

Theres also heaps of tricks you can do with the EQ. Lead with the highs, mids or lows for example. One of my favourites is to mix over with the lows cut and then when your ready, turn the track out bass down and bring the track in bass up. Pretty simple stuff, but thats what its all about really... little tricks.

Mixing in key is another popular way to mix. I still dont really know how to do this properly but I've pulled it off a few times. It allows you to mix the melodies together instead of just the intro and outro to each track. It makes for a very 'driving' feel to the mix. I'm sure someone else could explain it a lot better though. Theres been heaps of threads on it if you do a search.

In Sydney theres this DJ, Joshua Van Aalst who does a lot of mixing stright into breakdowns. He kinds skips the intro sometimes and just mixes from the outro straight into the hand in the air bit. It feels very up and down sometimes but certainly gives his mixing a unique style. He plays a lot of vocal trance though, so it kinda suits it pretty well.

best way to figure out new ways is to get comfortable with your records. I used to only fade in the new track with the bass killed, then add it in slowly, then cut out the old track.

but once you know your tracks you can layer them, mash em up, play certain parts, put some accapellas over top of them, mix in with bass first, cut in and out, sample, run effects....

but id say there is only 34 ways to mix trance.

a little trick i do is.....

Say theres a 32 bar main part (after the breakdown) on the track i wanna mix out of, i will then find a track that has its bass come in after 32 bars.

so its basically overlapping chorus into build...but when it comes to the begging of the 24th bar ill cut the bass on both tracks to create a mini breakdown and then fade in track b and then slam the bass in
