Sorry fast, i was busy and never seen this post.
I recommend you have a look at the numark tt range.
They come in belt/direct drive kits and you can get 2 tables for around the 200 ish mark.
You say you dont want to dj? Then i might suggest you go for belt drives, and spend the xtra cash on some vinyl.
Kam decks are cheap, but avoid them like the plauge, they stink.
For a mixer, you wont need anything fancy, go for the numark blue dog, basic and cheap, it does the job.

yeah.. Numarks are good quailty and price.
Another alternative are Gemini TT which some of my friends recommend..
But you shouldnt really get Kam TT's as they are crap! Very low quality
Well, you are pretty limited with that much money. If you can manage to save up another $100 CAD then you will greatly increase your options.
Numark TT-100 are about $310 CAD.
Gemini XL-500 are about $290 CAD.
Heres a Belt Drive table in you price range Stanton STR8-50 $190 CAD
Even comes w/ a cart and headshell.
**** And dont forget, save the money to buy a GOOD cartridge like an Ortofon. That way your vinyl will last longer and the sound quality will be excellent.****
Hope I helped.

Cartridges are what house the needle that touches the record. Go to
There are various kinds out there: Some cartridges plug into what is called a headshell and then the headshell gets plugged into the tonarm on the turntable. Other kinds of cartridges(like Ortofons) are all in one piece that plugs into the tonearm. Go here to se the various types: http://www.123dj.com
Oh yeah, "Ortofon Concorde's" are the best ones out there IMHO.

listen, if you just want to play your records and not mix, WHY are you eager to spend that much money? its not like youre gaining any sound quality... you should hit some pawnshops, get any used TT (you can find a direct drive TT w/out pitch control for like 50 bucks) without pitch control and then spend your money on quality needles and cartridges which you can always use on the next TT if you decide to take up mixing...
well anyway, just my opinion

Yeah! That's a good idea Trancegeek!
Go and do what he said FASTDJMP3. That way you will have more money for a good Cartridge which will really make the difference if your just playing records.

hmmmmmmmmm good idea TranceGeek , i went to a store today that sells used TTs , and they sell those very old ones for at least 80 bucks ... i don't think i should spend 100 bucks on a used TT

FASTDJMP3 i know its not what you want to hear, but having vinyl generally means you are going to become a dj sometime in the future, so save up to get techs or vestax. but seeing as you want something now, i suggest you have a look at http://www.htfr.com (just as a guide, it all in british £s) as they have all the info you need. the calaogue database is huge and you should beable to pick up something cheap, ex-demo or 2nd hand there.
