Listening to mix through headphones?

sorry if this seesm stupid, but anyway i am!

Is there a word for lsitening to your mix through your headphones, before being played out on the speakers? just curious about thato ne.

Also, is it important for a mixer to be able to do this? does it make it alot easier?

offcoz you can, just turn up your headphone volume and have both channel fader down. And yeah it is pretty important that the mixer can do this.

And... this is a pretty dumb question actually...

Your mixer doesn't have cueing? Find the person who sold you that thing and slap 'em.

What kind of mixer are you using?

i think maybe what he meant is listening to both tracks at once, ie "the mix" in the headphones, something some mixers cannot do.

Listening to both tracks at the same time in the headphones is definitely not essential. Some people like it but if your mixer doesn't have that feature its not a huge problem. I never listen to both tracks in the headphones at the same time that makes it a lot tougher for me to tell which way I need to pitch bend.
