hey TAs, I have a question. They're has got to be a way to salvage an old record that has lots of crackling and popping noises. They're not big scratches, small ones (lots of them) needle doesnt really skip at all. i already tried using groove glide once and I ran out, its all gone so I gotta get some more. Anyways, there has got to be some secret method of making old records from 1994 stop crackling and popping. I can deal with the occasional skip of the record, but the pops and crackles are the wrost. Does anybody know a way that they've tried and works. Please, help me.
I'm trying to salvage the PVD 45 RPM album... and Vanity "Torin"

i have a somewhat similar prob...
for the main melody of Tiesto - Adagio for strings, theres a definate hiss at a certain point in each revolution of the record...
also could possibly be my needles, theyre like a year old with way too many hours of use.. theyre like eroding away.. a few of my tunes have alot of record dust on em... whats good/safe to clean them with?
i heard swiffers were good or something like em

No idea justin, but I'm goin to keep an eye on this thread in case someone replies with a solution. I'd love to fix up some of my mom's old records.
Exodus17: use Groove Glide(what justin mentioned) for cleaning, I got some of that stuff for xmas and it works wonders. Although i've never used a swiffer to clean my records so they might do fine.

Mine hisses at certain points too and I've noticed that it's actually the transparent orange vinyl that causes it. Somehow the needle reads "through" the vinyl and reacts to the images in my slipmat's figures - every time the colour changes from black to white in it I get a hiss...
I've used it with old records and tapes before and with a little tweeking you can rid of hissing, pops and scratches.

theres propably nothing I can do about it... maybe somebody will invent something in the future but until then I'll propably just convert them to cd and try to reduce the pops.
