Republik Grand opening review

20 people waiting in line for an hour and a half (literally), while the 'funny' bouncers let in girls who are a bit flirty with them

one word....

DISAPPOINTED

Just got home now, one of the last to leave aswell (I think Del, Liam, Nat and Lukas were still there we we bagged round 3:30).

Got in early. suprised how quick the night filled then it kinda capped. like noone new showed for like an hour....wondering if they closed the doors or something.

Pleanty of room to dance, Good music (mixing was iffy at times) but seemed to be TOO much house.

Was wicked to see the TA support even thought their was no trance.

Found drinks to be about on par for price, the sound system was nice, little loud, but at 1 million for it thats expected (the speakers sounded distant to a point). The lightint was nice, but i saw no lasers....which suprised me. Was pretty kool. floors clean, ppl were friendly, though dennis and I found ourselves right beside a fight in the DSR and once again in the main room 20 min later.

Overall for a quick 2 week opening, and no "headliners" playing. id give the night a 7.

Ampz

ps. heard rumours that there was 2000 on guestlist alone and the club had a cap of 1600-1700....sounds kinda off to me :S

i totally second tht...i had to wait in line for almost 2 hrs before i cd get in...while like a 100 or so ppl (mostly girls n this is no exageration) just walked in without waiting in line....n the lineup for the last hour was like literally of 20 ppl....extremely disappointed....put a bad flavor in my mouth for the rest of the night

trying to be impartial here...so as 4 the club itself...theyve done a decent job...audio n visuals r pretty neat...nice, frndly n not to mention good looking bartenders ( i got in arnd 2:10 am n i tried getting a drink but the bartender ''politely'' refused...liked how she wasnt all like bugger off, last call was 10 mins ago)

wht else...umm...music was aright...after i got in they were closign out the smaller room n playing house in the main room...it got progressive n hard n a bit tribal later on...left arnd 4:30

all in all...thumbs up 4 the club...i can c myself having soem good nights thr in the summer..if only they do something abt their bouncers or atleast friggin make sure they r impartial to the ppl getting in...

Well with all the negative reviews I'm kinda glad I decided not to go at the last minute. I knew there would be a hell of a line for the grand opening, and I just didn't have the strength to deal with all that. It does not matter how fancy the club is, the crowd and music will make or break it. So here's hoping for a good turn out for J00F!!!

PS: James you suck for not inviting me to the party there on Friday!!

this is why I wouldn't have gone. There are always bugs on opening night. Give it a few weeks to work out the kinks, then go to judge the place.

well, i thought i'd be writing a review of republik at this time, but no such luck. we finally got on foot around the repulik area after parking around 11:30. (apparently thats LATE for anywhere in the clubbing area cause every fuckin place closes at 3am, so rediculous.) the line was obviously a mad house, that laser prolly attracted everyone, looked cool, but not impressed with that line. PLZ DON"T TURN THIS INTO A BULLSHIT TOP 40 CLUB!!!! so many ginos and the bullshit through the middle line. since we were around the corner when we got in the line, we were like, fuck this, and ended up just walking around toronto kinda aimlessly. at around 1230 we considered walking up to boa and went to up to dundas, but i didn't know where it was and no one in the area knew...ohwell, next time. so we walked back, line was still shit, so we figured, ok, maybe if we grab a drink at some bar, around 1:30 or so all the ginos will be leaving and the club will open up. so we hung out at that bar on the corner of john and richmond (forget what thats called) just casually almost centred by a fight that broke (toronto is so fuckin random for stupid shit like that) went back to the line and was still long as hell...

some guy gave us free tickets to lucid, so we're like, fuck, its free, lets just go. on the bright side, at 2am we walked right in. never been b4, the reverb in the huge space was a little strong, but not bad...the dj dropped some nice house songs too. i enjoyed it there, not really the place i'd go back to often though. only if it were free on a random night like last nite. the disappointment is they close at 3:30??? i was like omg, and even worse they play bad music at 3am just to try to kick you out. what a joke, so i'm leaving the club still wide awake, and at that point the republik line was empty, but the bouncer says $20, so we only had a couple hours left in us tops, so it wasnt worth the $20 bucks each to get in. so ended up cutting out night early.

i really want to check out republik, but i hope they don't always have this bullshit, i can't put up with that crap. (btw. did anyone go early, ie. b4 11pm, and how long did you have to wait?)

also, how much was the underground parking? we thought it'd be $20 or something rediculous like that, so parked somewhere else in a shitty location and it still ended up being $20, what a fuckin joke. the richmond/adelaide area just makes me love places like guvernment and docks that much more, away from all the bullshit.

My friend hit this, said the lineup was silly for the amount of people who were in line while girls were just going in like that.

HE wonders if when johan or john fleming comes and theres 1000 people waiting in line will the same shit happen?

the waiting in line trick is to make the club seem like it's happening and attract more people when it's really not.

low move.
