Active monitors have an integrated amp so you hook them directly to your source. Passive monitors need an amplifier (like most speakers people are used to dealing with), so you hook your amp to your source and your monitors to your amp.

naaaa shouldent be any diffrents in the quality of the sound...

I am planning on buying Active monitors.
But I havent done enough research yet to be a 100 percent on the right desition.

on the second hand I already have a amp so maybe it wouldnt be necessary buying Active monitos.

Well, that depends on the quality of the components. Personally I like passives better. It gives me the freedom to switch out amps, or keep my favorite amp and get a better set of speakers.

If you're checking into passive speakers these might be some to keep in mind:

Dynaudio BM6, ADAM ANF10, Events

If you're looking into amps check out: Bryston 4B, Hafler Trans Nova P3000, P4000, or on up.

Many issues going on here..

Active monitors (good ones anyway) are usually at least bi-amped. Meaning that there is one amp per driver. this means that a far higher quatlity active crossover can be used prior to the amps rather than the more traditional (and usually lower quality)passive crossover which is between the amp and two or more drivers.

Active Monitors mean that the manufacturer has the luxury of closely matching the speaker to the driver and mouch tighter tuning can be done.

at a basic level:-

Cost of Active Monitors - Cost of same Model of speaker but passive = $$ of Amps in active monitors.

I have a set of what many would consider "silly money" active speaker. Those have three amps in each speaker, and amazing integration. ATC SCM-50a if anyone is interested... I love them

I have the Mackie 824's. They are great monitors, you can crank the mix or keep it low. NIce settings on the back too. Best of luck
