Well, I finally broke my DJ cherry. I got a residency at a really nice lounge for thursday, friday and saturday night (11pm - 2am). unfortunately, i will only be here another weekend. lol. oh well. anyways, they pay me really good and they cover my bar tab so its pretty cool.

there were some things i wish i had played before others tonight. also, it was kind of new to me playing only house and popular music, but for the most part, i think my mixing held up. the one other thing that tripped me up was using a setup i have never played on in my life - a rane mixer and a dual denon dn4000 cd deck.

just thought i would let you know since nobody else cares

yeah the Rane is very tricky given the fact that you can only monitor one channel on the headphones at one time...but the way Ive gotten around that (and the club MUST have good moniters for this) is by turning the moniters up to a point and positiong your other ear to where both the volume in your one headphone and the respective monitor speaker sound equal. Its tricky and took me a few times at Eternal to get used to it, but last saturday at Eternal I foudn I had no problems beatmatching. There were a few times where the beats weren't precisely aligned but it wasn't anything I couldnt correct immediately. Other than that I love the Rane for its sound quality and the knobs vs faders make it easier to mix. The EQs are great because you can turn them all the way off rather than -26db.

Anyways...lol, congrats on the residency, hope it works out for ya.

But seriously, it's cool that you played out man - I'm jealous. Now you've got something to throw around as 'experience' when looking for a gig in D. (I'm assuming you're coming back to D?) Nobody has to know that your Residency was only two weekends.
