i actually went and listened to it all today. really the only thing that even got me interested where those 808 rimshots he used in a bunch of songs. other than that...it was just played out, unimaginative, uncreative poop from a man who we all know is worth sooo much more than that. richard sold us out. and omg that track beautiful...the melody somehow has moby written all over it, but its just soooooooooooooooooo unimaginative and just goes no where. again, im disapointed. 18 sucked, but i think this is worse.

ya ill admit that ive been disappointed in moby as of recently... play and 18 (more 18) where a complete disapointment... but i feel that hes starting to get back to some originality... specially after his new album out under voodoo child...
but i use to be a big fan and still have a great respect for him because he is and will always be 1 of americas first true djs...

moby is 1 of the first original djs out of new york back in the mid to late 80s when it all first began... he was there with frankie bones as some of americas first original electronic (rave) djs... he was around in england and all over europe during the summer of love in 88 and he deserves credit just for that alone

From what i've heard of this i've found it to be too much of a shift from the sort of stuff on Play and 18. I'm not sure if quasi commercial pop-rock type stuff suits Moby to be honest, and why does he insist on singing on most of the tracks? His voice is passable but it isn't anything special, he could easily have found more suitable vocalists for some of the songs.

I haven't heard any of the ambient album though, I might try and give that a listen before I decide whether this is worth buying or not.

heres a partial bio for those who may not know

Born Richard Mellville Hall, in NYC during 1966 and raised in Connecticut USA, Moby took his unusual musical name from the title of the famous book "Moby Dick" after tracing his ancestry back to it's author. He began his musical career as a hardcore punk in Connecticut's Vatican Commandos also providing vocal duties for the militant combo Flipper whilst their regular singer was in prison and spent a stint on guitar with 4AD favourites Ultra Vivid Scene.
Finding himself increasingly drawn to dance music he began DJ-ing and by the end of the 80's had a keen ear for techno dance tunes. His first single releases were for New York independent dance label Instinct under a variety of names including The Brotherhood and Voodoo Child. Amongst these was "Go!" which cheekily set Angelo Badalamenti's "Twin Peaks Theme" against an insistent rhythm track. It succeeded in driving the dance floors of the newly established Rave scene, completely wild and gave Moby his first hit in October 1991. With his travels to support the record revealing a conversational ability that set him apart from his rather anonymous dance music contemporaries the press were soon describing Moby as "Techno's first star." However where he really differed from his techno music peers was in his rock 'n' roll approach to what was essentially an anti rock 'n' roll scene. During the climax of his set at the 1992 DMC/Mixmag Awards he trashed his keyboards, a gesture that suggested his punk rock origins had not been completely abandoned.

I don't care about 18, but how can you say Play was a disappointment?
That album is incredible. Maybe listen to it again?

I found Hotel to be a bit too vocal for me altho alot of the tracks was killers and Lift me Up really rocks, especially the Mylo remix.

im not saying its bad... i am just more dissapointed at the fact that something like every 25 seconds of that album was sold to commercials... it seems moby has lost his underground ness and is more focused on the pay check...
