Im still saving my money for all my equipment and over the weekend I bought my first vinyl. I'll keep buying vinyl so I'll have plenty to work with when I get my turntables. But what really sucks is having all this music but not being able to listen to it. So what would be the best turntable without a pitch or anything that just has great sound quality and has outputs to hook up to speakers around the 100-200 dollar price range? If something like that exists

Here's some advice. Save up more money and buy a Tech 12, TTX or whatever brand you prefer. Why?? Well, since you seem to want to go the DJ route already why not buy a TT that will work for listening now and also will be useable in your up coming DJ set-up. No point in plopping $200 on a TT that will be worthless once you start DJing.

in my honest opinion, i'd hold off from buying records until you get yourself a technics... you can listen to music on cd or internet radio for now, and besides, the more vinyl you buy, the slower it will take for you to get a deck.

if you cant wait to get started do what i did - buy the cheapest dj-in-a-box package you can find... probably the Gemsound SK-10 pack or something similar

i got the Gemsound Kit- at $200 you get the fakest turntables(2) ever created, a 2ch "scratch" mixer with all the controls to get started, and a cheap excuse at a single sided headphone/mic that you probably wont even use anyways

on the upside - its cheap, it gets the job done, turntables have pitch adj so you can at least learn to beatmatch, mixer has 2band Eq (trebble and bass), gains, headphone control along with mixed cue control, kit comes with pretty much everything you need as far as gear goes, all the cables, included needles and whatnot

downside - its cheapness on your wallet is directly related to its cheapness in quality (the decks are in and out plastic), not even the slightest chance in learning to scratch with these decks(ive had to perfect my technique on spinbacks just to keep the needle from jumping), the needles are really cheap, but if you're nice to them they'll last a little while, *the headphones are a joke - deffinately reccomend getting a real set of phones

all that aside, for $200 you get all the basics and you can learn the basics

should you enjoy spinning, you will need to upgrade, which means youve spent $200 on gear you'll probably get rid of anyways + whatever the cost of upgrades are as opposed to the TA method of sucking it up, saving, and going all out when you have the $$$$$ to dish out on pro gear

however- should you become a master of your immitation decks, making the transition to REAL gear will be that much sweeter, you'll appreciate it that much more

if you do get cheap gear first id highly suggest making a seperate savings for upgrades as vinyl will consume your every last penny,ive not had lunch at school since like last year but i do have a good record collection going

sorry everyone but ive gotta disagree with you all.

the first thing i did when i made the decicion to start DJing was start buying records. not alot, just maybe 1 new vinyl a week. I hijacked my dad's old school belt drive piece of crap and started saving money. by the time i finally got my techs, i had about 10 records to start messing around with. the worst thing i can think of is to drop $1000 on a DJ setup and get it home and say "fuck, ive got nothing to spin"

dude, if you need a turntable (since we both live in orlando) come down to guitar center (the new one on south OBT) and ill hook you up with a little something to get you started.

Just buy the cheapest thing you can find 2nd hand, I think you can find crap for free actually, ask friends and family if they have an old table somewhere, stuff like that. Then save up for a good setup.

Awsome! Thats exactly what i've been thinking, whats the point of having the equipment if you don't have something to work with? PM me the address and details. I go to the one here in Winter Park where the little plaza and the Regal Cinemas are and havn't heard of this new one. Im gettin paid tuesday and should have more than enough for something.

Dude, I'm exactyly in the same situation!
Í'm also still saving money for some good decks but I already ordered some vinyl(came in yesterday). But it's very shitty if you see that beautiful record but you can't listen to it!
Anyway maybe I can spin them by a friend of my sister but still I can't listen to it @ home!
I've gotta be patience I guess...

by the time i bought decks i had around 30 vinyl to spin, bought 1 or 2 a week while saving for the decks, like someone else said... no point in spending loads on a set-up and not having any vinyl

Luckly I was fortunate enough to be able to order my set-up and a batch of vinyl at the same time, but the vinyl came about 5 days before the set-up did. However, I would have to agree, if you can't get it all at once at least buy a bit of vinyl first. What's a set-up worth if you can't play it at all. Yea it's a bit crap to have vinyl and nothing to play it on, but it's a much smaller investment and, if need be, you can dig up some old crap TT to listen to it on.

I'm going this way too, saving for turntables, but in the meanwhile still buying some vinyl (got 5 now, aiming for around 10 or something when I've got enought for turntables; we'll see ) . I have luck tho, parents got a turntable, so I can at least listen to them
