Buy a second hand portable DAT recorder.....
you can then record at the best quality and transfer to PC or whatever mediaum you want at a later date.
We use DATs out of mixers in various clubs/studios, and have produced CD's for commercial sale......

Check out mp3DirectCut. It's free and a great MP3 trimmer as well.

Get an iRiver MP3 Player (20GB or 40GB). They have optical IN/OUT (as well as regular line in/out), also record either WAV or 320kbps MP3.

does it rip? or only does it cut the sets in different parts?
because I've tried to get an mp3 recorder for free but no luck, the cheapest I've found it's the Advanced Mp3 recorder for 30 €

Doesn't DAT have a slightly higher sample rate (than CDs, don't think it's too much higher)? Dunno how much better it is though?

I believe it records as an mp3 file. I've only tinkered with that part once, just to see what the button does.
I mainly use it as an mp3 trimmer/editor. It's got dual dB level displays. I'm not sure if it has record level adjustments. You may have to do that in your sound card line-in level adjustment.
It's a small and unobtrusive program. Just unzip the download and you can double-click on the .exe file to start. It just creates an .ini file for your custom settings. It doesn't require installation at all! No registry changes, maybe a .dll file required, but that's it. Small, unobtrusive, doesn't change anything in your operating system, doesn't require installation, and it's free! Just how a program should be!
