Ok so... pretend you are djing this party?

Me and a friend are going to dj this party (and by dj I mean use traktor on my computer) for a party at my school. I think I don't need to tell you the taste a music that most people will have there (college kids U.S.). I want to hear what you think we should play. I wan't to mix between a lot of rap and some house to vary things up a bit.

I'm thinking along the lines of
Sander K- The Fruit
NERD- Lapdance (Oakenfold Remix)
*Atmosphere- Cats Van Bags* If you have heard this song I think you know it has the most devistating bass, and I want some more like this in praticular. Thank you.

If I were you

Id play a 50 cent track

then go to the middle of the dance floor, make everyone form a circle around you, and take a dump

This might be a bit difficult. I know age is supposed to make a difference, but if college is anything in the states as it is here, you might find this a bit difficult.

If I were you, I'd play some prog trance and some funky house. Holden or Cattaneo must be included in this, as well as some Probspot and even Perry O'Neil.

Whatever you do, don't cheese it up and turn it into an all ages dance. If you go to a rave, you don't expect to here the game and if you go to a rasta/urban rap party, you don't expect to hear RVDB .

I say, play what you want and see if they like it. The only way anyone gets into trance is if they're exposed to it. Not sugar-coated in rap and rnb. Though I guess I may show a little bit too much optimism

I think house can work, but only in small doses, but its going to mostly hip-hop and rap. I need songs though, not genre suggestions.

outta control by the chems
Thanks for that, Ill check that out.

MV's remix of 50 Cent - In Da Club is actually fairly tolerable. You could also try throwing in the Deep Dish / P. Diddy collab Let's Get Ill. Chemical Bros ft. Q-Tip - Galvanize might also go over well.

On the whole, though, I'd recommend you stay more on the house tip and avoid anything too trancey. I used to spin my fraternity's parties and found a much better reaction to a slower, dirtier beat than the uplifting supersaws of trance.

lol totally dude, and then in the middle of the 50 cent track just cut it out and throw Slayer - Angel of Death on sooo fuckin loud it distorts the speakers... from there put on In Flames - BulletRide. Then when your slammin those tunes flip everyone off and light up a cigarette, inhale a big one and then stick it in your arm.

So you're asking us what to play?Hmmmmmmmmm let me see. What if you play want you want, what you think is good, what you're listening all the time, what describes you?I mean, yeah it's cool to be the trendy dj that plays the big hits with the little pussies pointing at you......but does this satisfy you??If so,you really shouldn't ask here to be honest.DJing is not about playing the most known tunes - genres for the fame and the chicks. It's about expressing yourself and passing to the audience what you feel is worth listening, something different, something they haven't heard and might like. And most of all,DJing must be fun for you first. Many in our lives here made some decisions (about djing).Personally i could be paid to play commercial shit to a radio show but i prefered to keep playing on my University Radio, with MY selected tunes,MY selected genre,MY program......after all, that's what i am.A tranceaddict boy that finds trance to be fantastic, satisfying, breathtaking, elevating you to another level, making you dream, travel and so on.And that's what i want to play wherever i can.

So the question you should ask is <>.If you want to be the trendy bad-ass with latest and known tunes of every genre then play all the known commercial shit.If you want to be the DJ that loves his genre then simply play your favourite tunes.Keep in mind that you'll get positive and negative comments (either you choose the first one or the other). So it's up to you really .
