Yo all, i have been out of producing music with fruity for a good while now.

Have recently purchased fl5 producer edition and i am having a headache with it.

I think the last version i used was fl3, and when i was laying down patterns in the playlist they would always lock in and be perfectly lined up in time with each other, whereas now when im using 5 they go exactly where i click the mouse and its nigh on impossible i find to get them to line up perfectly.

IS thier andthing i can change or a key i can hold that will make them line up perfectly when i lay them down?

In FL Studio 4, there's a dropdown menue "snap" where you can select "line", "cell", "none", "beqts", etc. You'll find it in that bar wher the clock, the play/pause button and the cpu meter is.
I think in FL Studio 5 it's similar. If not, search the help for "snap".

this topic comes up every month or so. i cant remember how many there have been since ive been on this forum.

this stuff is in the manual. its in the faq on the fl studio board. and when you start up fl studio its not like its some hidden function or anything in one of the drop down menus. its right there in front of you. and its been in fl studio for ages. i cant believe some people have gotten this far without ever changing the snap parameter. i mean - what happens when you want to do 1/32nds? or 1/64ths? what happens when you want to do natural swing?!

Problem solved!

Fl3 was always set to snap to so i never had to use that feature!

I will however freely admit to being a twat for not noticing that.

i see his point personally. if you have been using fl studio for years and know it inside out you would have used changed the snap function.

do you mean to say that in all these years you NEVER once used 1/4 step? you never once used swing beats? never used 64ths? it defies all logic that anyone can write music in fruity for this long without using the snap tool. otherwise it locks everything into a mechanical 16/32 step sequence. and it sounds exactly that - mechanical. the only other way to get 64ths is by changing the timebase and hardly anyone does that because it doesnt restretch patterns created in different timebases. and still no swing. no human touch.

that doesnt really bother me though. what bothers me is that all this is in the manual. part of what is somewhat depressing about seeing questions like this over and over again is that its blatantly obvious none of you even bothered to look in the manual before posting. im glad you sorted your problem out but hey - next time the first stop is the manual. always. if you cant get an answer there, the 2nd stop is the official floops forum which addresses most of the technical issues not addressed by the manual. 3rd stop is to search these forums for more specific problems. if that still turns up nothing final resort is google for the long shot.

between those you will find concise answers to 90% of all the questions posted in this forum.

i can totally see mr mystery's point of view with stuff like this. i used to think he was a hard ass but theres a pretty good reason for it. for some of the people who have been here alot longer than i have it must truly be depressing to see the same questions repeated over and over and over again, bumping all the quality posts down to the nether regions of the board. quality threads like the fight against oompa-itis just get lost amidst the slew of reiterated questions like this one.

i dont mean to shit on you or this thread and i apologise if it seems like a personal attack because its not intended that way at all. but this forum would be leaner and more productive without all the deadweight RTFM type threads.
